Recently I mentioned that I try to keep my pantry and freezer “stock-piled” so I have things on hand and can make a meal or dessert quickly. Sometimes even the best laid plans fail! I went to make a recipe for a get-together a couple weeks ago, and realized I had run out of sugar! But…I had a cake mix and several jars of my home canned peaches in the pantry! Then I knew what I would make! Peach Cobbler Dump Cake. It only requires three or four ingredients (if you count the cinnamon), it is really fast to pull together, it tastes incredible, and it makes your house smell like your grandmother’s!
You don’t have to have fresh canned peaches, but try to use the best you can find. You’ll be using the liquid, as well. To make this, you literally pour in the cans of peaches with their juice into the baking dish, top it with a dry cake mix, then pats of butter. Then you pop it into the oven! This is heavenly with a scoop of ice cream on top!
PEACH COBBLER DUMP CAKE
INGREDIENTS
- 2 (16 ounce) cans peaches in heavy syrup (undrained)
- 1 (15.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, or to taste
- Vanilla ice cream, optional topping
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Empty peaches into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Cover with the dry cake mix and press down firmly.
- Cut butter into small pieces and place on top of cake mix.
- Sprinkle top with cinnamon.
- Bake for 45 minutes.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
So, in the things you keep on hand, be sure to keep a couple cans of peaches and a white or yellow cake mix, plus a stick of butter. It will make you care less that you’re out of sugar!
I found an article by Country Living of 50 Dump Cakes. These have given me the itch to bake again!! See what you think by checking them out!
Are you new to Dump Cakes? Who’s going to try one?!
With love from my country kitchen,
Oh my goodness, I love this recipe! Do you think you could make individual servings with this recipe? Paul doesn’t like peach cobbler (ugh) so I don’t make this unless we’re having company.
