If you receive our D&D Ministry email you received an update this week about our recent 12-day trip to New England. It was packed full of wonderful ministry opportunities that widen our eyes in wonder at the goodness of our God! He lets us be a part of so many special people’s lives and of ministries that are doing an awesome work for God. We feel so blessed to partner with them and serve the Lord together!
But here’s a secret – He also allows us to get in lots of fun in the process! These are things that are not in the newsletter, but that I thought you would enjoy seeing!
On this last trip, we were in six different states. We stayed in five different hotels. We saw a castle, a marble house, visited a city and a bakery where a Hallmark movie was filmed, drove along the Maine coastline, rode on a ferry, ate LOTS of incredible seafood, toured my favorite baking company, and drank lots of Dunkin coffee…and I’m leaving out lots, I’m sure!
Here’s a peek into our adventures…
Mystic, CT was the city where the Hallmark movie, Mystic Christmas was filmed! Now I’m going to have to watch the movie! The town is gorgeous! It was here that we had our first ever Lobster Roll!

The castle was fascinating and beautiful! They were setting up an outdoor wedding when we were leaving. The sunset over the water must have made the views spectacular during the ceremony!
This was the “summer cottage” (!) for Alva and William Vanderbilt! The rooms were stunning! But the sad story of their lives showed that money did not buy them happiness! It made me think of Anne of Green Gables when she told Gilbert –
I don’t need sunbursts or marble halls, I just want you.
She was on to something there!!
My sweet husband took me back to King Arthur Flour Company. We enjoyed lunch at the cafe, walked through the store, and through the building where classes were going on. One day I’d love to take a class!
The BEST part of the trip was my traveling partner! We enjoy the same things – coffee shops, quiet walks, drives along the coast, and just meandering. It was wonderful, and we get to do it together. How incredibly blessed we are! This is life and ministry on the scenic route and we love it!
Have you be to New England? Have you seen Mystic Christmas?

What fun adventures! I have never been to New England but I have had a lobster roll in Boston and it was amazing! Would also love to see the Gillette Castle. Our family loves the Sherlock Holmes movies!

That’s what I’ve heard! A friend told me that the brief visit I had in that one small part of New England (Boston) didn’t even scratch the surface because New England—all of it—has to be explored. One day! 😄
