The Scenic Route

The Scenic Route of VA, PA and NJ

Last weekend we had the joy of traveling to NJ to Tri-State Bible Camp. My husband chose to drive, and decided it would be smart if we split the trip into two days. This gave us time to meander on “The scenic route,” one of our favorite things to do! It was such a fun adventure! Let me share some of the favorite places where we stopped, shopped and ate on our way their and back.

Because my husband gets the Blue Ridge magazine, he had been made aware of a great pizza place in Daleville, VA. It was called, Tizzone Wood Fired Kitchen. The crust was thin and crispy and the toppings were delicious! It was a pretty day, so we were able to eat outdoors – always our choice.

As we were driving through Buchanan, VA, I spotted a cute antique store – The Best Place Antiques, and Dale was happy to let me wander through. I found a couple small treasures – one being a 1981 Christmas plate that I’d been looking for for my plate wall in my dining room!

The second day of our trip started with coffee and a muffin at the BEST coffee shop – Omega Coffee Collective. I had a honey-Vanilla Shakerato. The description of it is –

SHAKEN ESPRESSO SWEETENED WITH HONEY
AND VANILLA, POURED OVER YOUR CHOICE
OF MILK. 12OZ | SERVED ICED

It was the best iced coffee I’ve ever had. Just take a look…

Just outside of Belvidere, NJ, was this charming shed in the most picturesque setting…

This is one of the rewards of the scenic route!

We arrived at camp and were welcomed by the front porch with rocking chairs. It almost felt like Tennessee!

The retreat was a sweet blessing! The women were so attentive and responsive to the sessions. I met so many sweet ladies and loved getting to chat with them. They captured both mine and Dale’s hearts. It happens at every retreat! What a joy! Tri-State has women from Pa, NJ and NY that attend because those three states are all right around the camp! They offer many different kinds of camps – one for men is coming up, they have couples retreats and teen camp in the summer. You can check out their schedule on their web site.

On Sunday we had the joy of returning to Pine Island Baptist Church where we were last year. It was only 30 minutes from the camp, so it was a quick trip on Sunday morning! If you’re in the area, you must visit. The people are warm and caring and God’s Word is preached in truth. You’ll love the pastor and his family!

We drove to Lancaster, PA Sunday afternoon to stay the night at the Holiday Inn downtown. It was very nice, but the best part was their restaurant, The Imperial Restaurant. The atmosphere was quiet and inviting and the food was amazing! We had their Brie appetizer and one entree’ and it was over the top!

The last day of our trip we walked through Lititz, PA, a darling town with lots to offer. There were many fun stores and interesting places to see. We walked through the Tom Sturgis Pretzel Store – the first commercial family pretzel bakery. My husband is a huge pretzel fan, so this was a highlight for him!

We got home late Monday night, but it was so worth it! We saw the Lord do so much, from guiding our stops, protecting us, and then allowing us to serve Him over the weekend. We are so deeply grateful to Him for so many blessings along life’s path, as well as on the scenic route!

What scenic route places have you recently enjoyed?
