Why Am I Not Getting Things Accomplished At Home?

Have you ever felt discouraged that the long list of things that need your attention in your home aren’t getting done?

Perhaps there never seems time to get that laundry washed and folded. Or that paint you purchased for your bedroom is still sitting unopened. Maybe you had good intentions for your yard this summer, but the weeds are the only thing growing out back. The struggle is real and I can relate.

I remember times when I wondered why things weren’t getting done and then I realized a very simple truth – I hadn’t been home for long enough stretches to get all the work completed. Instead I had made choices to be away.

Instead of organizing all the errands on the same day, I would go out on several days, which kept me on the go more than was wise.

When I began using one day to do all the things in town, I was able to schedule my homemaking and work for the other days. One day was for changing the sheets, one day for dusting, one for mopping and vacuuming. I even designated a day for blogging and podcasting.

Not only did this help me get my work done, it also helped me to say no to urges to run to the store because I heard there was a sale, or to snatch the new Dollar spot item at Target that someone shared on Instagram. I could say no to those things because I knew I would be going to town another day. It could wait.

In short the very simple truth is…

You can’t get things done at home if you aren’t there.

You can quote me on that! Ha! Seriously though, we have to purpose to be home more. If you work, you can still purpose to be home more by doing all your errands before you go home, then staying there as much as possible. Thank the Lord for grocery pick-up or delivery that can simplify those tasks in our day!

It’s not just the work that is waiting for us. There is organizing, prepping for upcoming events, decluttering and discarding of stuff.

Then, most importantly, if we have a husband, he needs us home. If your children are there, they need you.

Our presence can’t be replaced by anyone or anything.

Perhaps it would be wise for us to consider how much we were away from home last week. Were you gone so much that your home or your family suffered because of it?

Pray about how you could rearrange your outings to provide for more time at home. There’s no place quite like it.
