Thanksgiving will be here three weeks! I look forward to the day filled traditions, good food, and family. I have some special memories of childhood days gathered with all the relatives . Back in the day, we all dressed up in our “good” clothes for these family get-togethers. This was a special occasion, after all!
When I’m visiting with my mom I love looking at the old albums containing photos from those gatherings. I look deep into the pictures at the tables, the decor, the apron my grandma had on. I sometimes wish I could jump back to that time to hear the chatter, the cousins playing, the parade playing on the television and the men talking about football or their latest hunting trip.
Lots has changed since those days, but one thing remains…this is a time to show gratitude. It begins with our God Who has given me eternal life, and been so gracious and generous. He loves me! He is involved in every detail of every day, whether I recognize it and appreciate it or not. He pours out grace blessings every single day. How could I not seriously consider how grateful I am to be His child?!
I’m going to add a special thanks to my daily journal this month, thanking the Lord for ways He’s taught me, answered prayer or been such a blessing to me. It’s good for me to be mindful of how good the Lord is every single day!
I’m also seeking to write out my thanks for my husband during this month. Each day I’m recalling one thing that he has done or said that was a blessing to me and I’m writing it in a little notebook and leaving it for him to find each day. It’s a small gesture, but while I’m hoping it encourages him, it’s also made me be on the lookout for the ways he blesses me each day. It’s a good exercise!
How could you express thanks to the Lord and to others during this month? Don’t let such a great opportunity for gratitude to pass you by. November is a whole lot more than turkey and dressing!
Refresh your heart with giving thanks to the Lord and others.
