James 3:5-8 says, “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Verse 10 – Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. In other words, brothers, you have a choice about what you say!
Do you find it as easy as I do to say whatever comes into your mind? Do you find it as hard as I do to refrain from it? Oh! This little tongue can get me into so much trouble. I’ve blogged often about this because it’s something I’m frequently dealing with! It’s harder to control with those I love the most. But, I’ve been reminded again, that I have a choice! No one makes me say what I say. I do it all by myself! I think it. I say it. I regret it.
My choice then today is, will my words be…
- Thoughtful or thoughtless?
- Spirit-filled or Fleshly?
- Suppressed or Slung?
- Priceless or Worthless?
I have a choice today – I can speak, or I can refrain from speaking. I can say what I’m thinking, or I can pray first. Therefore I’m praying Psalm 141:3 today – Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. The Lord will direct me to the right choice!
With love,
