Hobby Lobby is a fun place to find all the seasonal decor, and of course all the things for your walls and floors, but I’m learning that the best look for me is the decor that adds a little whimsy. That has driven me to scouring in thrift stores and antique booths. I want our home to reflect who WE are – not a brand.
Recently while browsing through The Burlap Bunny, a cute antique store in our area, I saw a weather vane. My first draw to it was a quote that I’ve been meditating on in recent months.
Which ever way the wind blows, God is good.
If I could remember where I read it, I would tell you, but I do know that a farmer had that written under his weather vane on his farm to remind all who saw it of this eternal truth. I’m grateful for that true statement. No matter what is happening in my life or yours today, whether it’s something surprising, something difficult, or something wonderful, it came through the hands of a good God!
I stood in the store looking at the brassy ornament, wondering how or where I could display something so different as this. I left with it in my hands, still unsure of exactly where I’d put it, but knowing that I would regret it if I didn’t buy it.
When I got home, it dawned on me that the whimsy of it would be perfect in my family room where I have a horse painting and a horse head!
I love the brass accent against the blue wall. It also made me pull out some other brass items I have and put them around the room. I love it! I love that every time I look at the weather vane my mind immediately goes to the goodness of God. I love that it’s unique and helps to tell a story of the lives we live and of the God who is always good, no matter which way the wind is blowing!
I’d encourage you to think about the story you want your home to tell and then refresh your decor with pieces that help articulate your lives. It is beautiful!
Do you have any whimsy in your home decor?
