My Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies

I’ve posted a LOT of cookie recipes on my blog over the years, but when it gets tight down to it, my favorite would have to be the infamous Chocolate Chip Cookie! I like them soft in the middle and full of chocolate chips! I’ve also recently added a little something else that I love (Read on!)!

My added ingredient – I found that adding a little coarse sea salt to the cookies before baking adds a lovely contrast to the sweet cookie!

Here’s the recipe I use. It’s similar to the Nestle recipe with just a few couple changes I’ve made.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 2/3 cups (10-ounce package) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Dark Chocolate Morsels + 1/3 cups more for tops of cookies
  • Coarse Sea Salt

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375° F.

Step 2

Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl.

Beat butter, Crisco, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy.

Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto lightly greased baking sheets. Sprinkle with sea salt, if desired.

Step 3

Bake for 8 to 11 minutes or until lightly browned. I bake mine for exactly 8 minutes for a soft cookie. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

A scoop makes putting the dough on the baking sheet so much easier!

Tips for making the BEST Chocolate Chip Cookies:

  • This recipe uses half Crisco and half butter. This keeps the cookies from spreading out too thin.
  • Use a scoop in the cookie dough. This will make the cookies the same size, and it’s also much easier than a spoon.
  • Refrigerate the dough at least an hour before baking.
  • Add a few chocolate chips to the tops of the cookies as soon as they come out of the oven. It makes them look even more inviting!

These would make incredible ice cream sandwiches! After the cookies cool, add a scoop of ice cream, then flatten it out with another cookie on top. Wrap in plastic wrap and freeze for a couple of hours.
