If We Seek, He Reveals

You can listen to more on this subject here on RefreshHer podcast.

Did you ever hear someone say, if you do this then this is the result…
“If you try this weight loss program, we promise you 10 pounds in a week!”

“If you buy this shampoo, your hair will grow, be stronger and look better than ever.”

Those aren’t sure guarantees, are they?

God’s Word tells us in Proverbs 2 that if we will do certain things we will receive a result that’s better than weight loss or beautiful hair! Listen to the instructions:

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

This is Solomon writing to his son, but these are God’s words to us, instructing as a Father. If you do this, then here is the result…

Hide – This is to treasure God’s commandments within you – In a word, the father encourages the son to memorize the Scriptures. Are you actively memorizing the Word of God, the Word which endures forever, even after heaven and earth pass away? If you are a parent, I strongly encourage you to join your children in the great adventure of memorizing Scripture together.
Treasure – This means means primarily to keep secret, to conceal something of great value with a definite purpose. It is used in reference to things of value which are secreted away for future use, like wealth, or a dowry for a bride.

Remember Job and all the trials he endured? How did he endure? One commentator said, I am convinced that the “secret” to Job’s “success” in suffering the incredible trials that befell him lay in the fact that he had held on to God’s Word, so that when the winds of adversity began to blow in his life, the Word held him fast! Job 23:12
Note Job’s frustration in Job 238:-9 –
Behold, I go forward, but He is not there, and backward, but I cannot perceive Him;
on the left hand where He doth work, but I cannot behold Him; He hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see Him.

Then in Job 23:10 note his firm declaration – But He knoweth the way that I take; when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Job did not see God, but He knew about Him, He knew about His ways, His character, His heart, and so he was enabled to make one of the greatest affirmations of faith in all of Scripture – “When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” How did He know that God knew his way? He had obeyed what he knew.

Job 23:11 –
My foot hath held His steps; His way have I kept, and not declined.
12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of His lips; I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

Hearing must be coupled with heeding of the Word for it to hold us fast when trials come (which they always will!). We must remember that God does know the way that we take and what is coming today!

When we study God’s Word and hide it in our hearts, we will have it tucked away, readily available to use in instructing our own hearts when we’re faced with a situation we don’t know how to handle, a friend who needs counsel, or how to instruct and comfort our children who need correction. How often when we have studied something that morning, it will be just the truth that will be needed that day! We’re able to pull that back up just when we need it.

Ps. 119:11 Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against Thee.
Weirsbe said about this verse ~

The Best thing – God’s Word
In the Best place – My heart
For the Best purposes – That I might not sin against Thee.

We must not only memorize but prize God’s Word it in our hearts. It needs to be “Shined up” if you will. We need to review it or it will be stolen away.

We need God’s Word to be wise women, filled with the knowledge of God. It only comes IF we hide it in our heart.

Are you treasuring His Word in your heart?
