Recently a friend texted me at the end of the day and asked,
Did you have a productive day?
As I considered what I had accomplished in the day, I concurred, that, yes, it was! I continued to contemplate what I would consider a “productive day.” Actually the Proverb that I had read that morning truly describes a life that is full.
My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
In verse two, “length of days” is actually referring to “fullness of days.” It’s a fulfilling life to walk with God and do His bidding each day. There’s truly no better way to live than to follow His Word!
As I considered what my productive days look like, I realized that there are six areas that I try to accomplish each day. There are often lots of other things that come into my schedule, but a day at home looks like this ~
Connecting with God. This is my first goal for each day. Time in God’s Word and prayer directs how I spend the rest of day. It keeps my thoughts on the right track. It allows me to lay at my Savior’s feet any burdens or concerns.
Calisthenics – This mostly means I try to walk and do some exercises each morning. I got a walking pad a few months ago and I love it. It fits under my love seat our family room, and it makes it easy to get exercise when it’s cold or rainy. I just feel better when I can get moving!
Clean an area – Even if it’s getting my robot vacuum going while I’m getting ready in the morning, I feel good seeing the carpets swept first thing in the day! I feel like the whole house is clean when the carpets are freshly vacuumed. I might straighten a closet, deep clean the bathrooms, mop or dust. But each day I try to clean something a little deeper than normal.
Cooking – If you’ve read my blog for any time at all you know that getting in the kitchen and cooking or baking is something I love to do. Being creative, and also wise with my staples and groceries is a good challenge for me. Remember my January challenge about only buying perishable items? I’m still in that mode and it’s been great! I love using up what I have and not buying more to fill the pantry and freezer!

Creativity – I love creating things, whether that’s through watercolor painting, sewing, chalkboard art, embroidery, or interior design. I’m a happy girl when I get to put my hands to creating something pretty.

Communication – I try to reach out to others each day. If the Lord brings someone to my mind as I’m praying, I’ll often text them to let them know I’ve prayed for them. I may just reach out to say hello. I may send a card or take a loaf of bread to a neighbor. I want to be connected to people each day, even when I’m home all day.
I trust that your day will be “full and peaceful!”
What constitutes a “productive day” to you?
