Nurturing Spirits

My mother-in-law tells the story of when she was a little girl she dressed her cat in doll clothes. She then put her into a baby carriage and pushed her up and down the street all the while the little feline lay there passively, loving the attention!

God made us with the desire to nurture, then he made some of us mothers. There are many women, however who are either not married, or are married but cannot have children. There are also those of us whose children are grown and no longer need constant nurturing (though there are still times for that). What is a lady to do with the desire to nurture? Rather than turning to our pets, as we would have years before, we can find a niece, nephew, neighborhood child, a child in the church, or a teen girl to pour our life into.

The word “nurture” means to support and encourage. Can you, think of someone that could use support or encouragement? There are people like that all around us! An elderly person in a nursing home who has no family to visit them would be another example of someone with whom we could invest our nurturing efforts.

God gave us women a heart to nurture. What are you doing with that special gift? Why not find someone with whom you could share it?
