Cozying Up the House

“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fires: It is the time for home.”
–Edith Sitwell, British poet

The first day of December here in East Tennessee was welcomed in by some snow flurries. It was so pretty and made us all realize that winter is indeed here! So, now it’s time to take down all the fall decor and add some winter/Christmas touches! In other words, it’s time to really cozy up the house! I found some really great decorating ideas recently and thought I’d share them with you today. These ideas came from Country Living. I love their magazine!

I used to have one of these Fisher Price barns – I wish I still did! This is a darling idea to use what you already have a make a fun Christmas decoration. Your children could even act out the Christmas story of Mary and Joseph coming to the barn!

Here’s an idea I do all the time. I take the Scrabble tiles and make words on the board and on the holders concerning whatever holiday is around the corner. It’s whimsical and even gets a game of Scrabble going when guests come and see it already out on the coffee table. I love that because most of my family won’t play Scrabble with me…I’m too competitive!

.

These apothecary jars are so versatile. I got mine at T.J. Maxx for under $10. I have mine filled with pine cones, gold ornaments and red berries. I love this idea of the Christmas lights inside! Use your imagination and use what you already have. Candy canes would be cute. Metal cookie cutters and greenery would be fun. Old ornaments that are too fragile to be out would be safe in the jar!

What good ideas have you found lately? I’d love to hear your ideas! Share them with us on the comment section!

Happy decorating!

  1. This is such a cute blog! I love these ideas– I've never seen the Scrabble setup before. I think a good idea is one I found in another winter-themed blog post: decorating the unused furniture on your porch! Forces me to be creative. Thanks for the ideas and figured I'd share that blog with you!

  2. Hello Denise,
I saw this idea in Southern Living. Use a tray to display your Christmas cards you receive. I love collecting trays, so I have many to choose from. Love your ideas as well.
