Strip the Bed

A simple illustration was given us at Boones Creek Bible Church this past Sunday.  My husband covered a table with a sheet, asking us to think of it as a bed.  The sheet respresented our sin that we try to hide from others.  How do we hide it?  He then threw a quilt over the sheet – we cover it up.  No one knows it is there.  It’s hidden from their eyes.
As I look at the picture of the beautiful bed pictured here, I am reminded that we may even, after we cover up our sin, throw a pretty pillow over the quilt and really dress it up – we convince ourselves that our sin isn’t so bad.  We may compare our sin to that of others and feel proud that we’re not as bad as so-and-so!  We are looking pretty good, really. Really?  He that covereth his sins shall not prosper…Proverbs 28:13a
But, down in our heart, the Holy Spirit keeps pointing His finger on that sin under the cover.  Isn’t He merciful to convict so we can get it right?  But whoso confesseth and forsaketh his sin shall find mercy. Proverbs 28:13b Shall find mercy!  What a wonderful God.  In His mercy He doesn’t give me what I deserve!  I deserve hell.  I deserve a stern rebuke, but I get His love.  I get His forgiveness…all because of His mercy.
If you were in our services perhaps you got things right.  Praise the Lord!  Are you still walking right today?  Have you kept true to the decision to uncover the sin, confess it and walk purely again?  If there’s something you’re hiding and you need to admit your guilt, remember that we have a loving God who cleanses when we confess and truly repent of it.
Strip the bed and be clean!
With love and care for you,
