Crock Pot Fried Apples

Fried apples – soft, sweet, and perfect for breakfast or supper. One of my favorite comfort foods at home and at Cracker Barrel is Pinto Beans (you can find the copy cat Cracker Barrel Beans here), fried potatoes, and fried apples. But I also love to have cooked apples with eggs and a biscuit!

My husband recently invited all our church deacons for breakfast and my menu included Hash Brown Bake, French Breakfast Puffs , Pecan Pie Muffins and Fried Apples. I needed quite a lot of apples for the group, so I wanted to cook them in the crock pot so I wouldn’t have to fuss over them on the stove. This method was so simple and absolutely delicious! They tasted every bit as good as Cracker Barrel’s!

Slow Cooker Fried Apples

  • 3 pounds honey crisp apples (peeled and sliced) – Gala or Granny Smith are good, too!
  • 2 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 teaspoon lemon juice

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Add apples to the slow cooker and all remaining ingredients. Mix well until all apples are coated.
  • Cook covered for 2 – 3 hours on high or until apples are tender.

I cooked my apples the night before I needed them, so in the morning all I had to do was warm them up! These apples would also be perfect to put inside a pie crust. I like my apples cooked almost completely when I bake a pie. I’m definitely going to try this the next time an apple pie is on the menu for dessert!

I am so happy to discover an easy way to cook up these fried apples. Even though they take several hours in the crock pot, they turn out just perfectly! Give them a try and forego the long line at Cracker Barrel!

  1. Your menu sounds like it was absolutely scrumptious! I think I’ll give the apples a try over the upcoming holidays. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  2. It has been several months since you posted this, but for some reason (the Lord?!) I remembered it when I was trying to figure out how to make fried apples for guests, without having to give them constant attention at the stove when fixing the rest of the meal. Thanks so much!

    1. Oh, I’m so glad you were reminded to use this recipe! The Lord is so kind to prompt us! It’s my go-to any time I’m making cooked apples! Thanks for letting me know they turned out well! Yay!

      1. Actually, I wrote that before they were done and I followed all your instructions, but they turned out like applesauce. No slices at all! I’m thinking I either sliced the apples too thin or I should have only cooked them for 2 hours instead of 3. Do you have any suggestions or thoughts? Thank you!

      2. Oh no! The cooking time can definitely make a difference, but probably the greatest issue is the type of apples you used. Some will break down very quickly and some stay in slices and just soften. Granny Smith are my favorite, but Jonathan and Honey Crisp are also good. Hope this helps!
