We are headed for a big change, beginning this Sunday. Our son-in-law will step into the role of senior pastor at Boones Creek Bible Church. My husband will assume the position of Associate pastor, and will work alongside Andrew. He will still preach when Andrew is away. He will lead our senior citizen group, lead the singing and multiple other responsibilities. As you can see, my husband is not retiring. It will just be a change in positions and responsibilities. After having months to pray about it, I have to say, I’m ready and I’m excited!
Most all of us resist CHANGE! We like things as they are. It’s comfortable and requires no thought or effort! Why mess it up? The truth is, change is what we all need. Here’s what I’ve learned about this so far as I’ve prayed about our upcoming shift in life.
- Change makes me depend on the Lord. When things are the same forever, it’s easy to fall into the comfort trap, which causes me to depend on myself instead of desperately needing the Lord. Proverbs 3:5-7
- Change gives me a fresh perspective. I see God at work, answering prayers and guiding my steps. I see Him giving new ways to serve Him. Prov. 4:12
- Change takes me out of my comfort zone. This pushes me to prayer, which draws me closer to my God. Ps. 91:15
- Change drives me to the Word for answers. Ps. 119:105 He will only ever lead us in ways that line up with His Word, so that is the place we will find answers.
These are all such blessings! Why would we not choose the change that God is desiring to bring into our lives? It’s full of adventure, promise and His presence!
What change is before you? Trust the Lord to lead you and provide for you. Look over your shoulder at what He’s done in your past – at His goodness and mercy that have been following you all along, and accept the change with joy!
Refresh your life with whatever change God is setting before you.
