An Easy Way to Freeze Apples

When our family went to the Apple orchard in August we picked about Sixteen pounds of apples!

We obviously weren’t going to eat them all fresh from the orchard, so I decided to freeze some of them. The methods I used were simple, and also kept them from turning brown.

I froze some so they would be ready for recipes like cake or muffins. I froze some so they were ready for an apple pie. Here’s how I did both…

I peeled, cored and sliced the apples. Then I put them in a bowl with a couple tablespoons of lemon juice and tossed them so they would be coated with the juice. I placed them in Ziplock bags and popped them in the freezer.

For the pie slices, I followed the procedure above, then added sugar, cinnamon and a little flour. I tossed them well, and then placed them in a foil-lined pie plate. I froze them until solid, then took the foil packet out of the freezer and put it into a ziplock bag.

When I want to make a pie I’ll just take the frozen block of seasoned apples and place them in my pie shell.

Even if you don’t go apple picking, it’s wise to buy apples now while they’re in season and preserve them. They’ll be ready for use and will be so much more cost-effective.

Here are some of my favorite Apple recipes.
