Christmas Cake & Coffee Party Recap

The month of December was busy, but it was full of fun, baking, laughter, good food and fellowship all around the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Before the new year gets too far along, I have to recap one of the sweet times the Lord allowed.

I had a Christmas Cake and Coffee Party on the thirteenth that was so much fun to host! I wanted the evening to feel casual, so I purchased Christmas Socks from Amazon and had them in a basket in the foyer. I had a little chalkboard sign at the door that told the ladies this was a gift for their feet. They slipped on the socks and left their shoes behind.

I separated the group of 20 into four different groups where I had tables set up for our Christmas Tree Tassel Craft. These ladies took crafting very seriously! Most were successful! (Ha!) However, it made for good conversation and small groups to get to fellowship, laugh and help one another.

Everyone was asked to bring a $10 gift of “their favorite thing.” It was fun to see what everyone gave/received! I got a set of battery operated candles; four different heights that turn on and off with a remote. So nice! I gave ceramic measuring cups. I love them because Crisco, peanut butter, honey and anything else sticky slides right out! They’re also pretty! They were something like these…

One of our ladies shared a devotional to point our hearts to Christ. She did a great job and we ended by that time by singing a couple Christmas carols.

Then it was time to eat cake! I made three different cakes, and a sweet friend (and awesome baker) made two – a German Cheesecake and the one pictured with the Lady Fingers. Both were amazing! I made a Blackberry Raspberry Truffle Cake, a Flourless Chocolate Cake and Pumpkin Roll. These were all served with coffee or Peppermint Punch.

I decided not to purchase paper plates and cups, but wanted to use all my different Christmas dishes instead. It was a happy mix of patterns, but they all blended with their seasonal colors.

I dimmed the lights down, and lit candles and we ate cake and mingled in small groups and had the best time together! It is definitely something I want to do again! I have it marked on my calendar for next December!

Next Friday I’ll share another fun event that I was blessed to enjoy!
Tell me about something fun you got to do during Christmas!

  1. For the first time, we got a fun grandma type babysitter for about 4 hours and the couples of our family dressed up fancy and we went on a date together to Longhorn steak house. (We had some sickness and unexpected events that eliminated a few couples). But it was such a hit and we hope to be able to do that again.

  2. Oh Denise, what a fun idea! I will file this away for future reference!

I also attended a fun ladies’ get-together on the evening of the 13th. Our church ladies group had a dinner and gift exchange that night. (It also had the added dimension of a surprise baby shower since one of our young moms was due on January 5.)

The lady who hosted insisted on preparing all the food except rolls which another lady did. She wanted it to be a gift to all of us. She served us an amazing roast beef dinner next to a crackling fireplace. We had previously drawn names for the gift exchange. We were so blessed and encouraged that three of our new ladies came to this fellowship.

But I need to think of a way I can use your cake and coffee party idea for another year. Maybe for my ladies Sunday School class. Thanks so much for sharing this!

    1. Your Christmas get together sounds heavenly! How gracious of your host to fix a whole meal and to serve it beside the fireplace. It sounds lovely.
I hope you can incorporate the cake and coffee party into your schedule next year. It’s so much fun.☺️
