While we serve at The Wilds this summer and befriend the sponsors who bring their kids to camp, I have the blessing of teaching a ladies’ session each Wednesday afternoon. As a part of our time together, I long to show hospitality and create fellowship among the women. It’s a bit challenging, but I believe if we ask the Lord how we can be hospitable, He will make a way.
As I prayed about how to do that this summer, the Lord brought my Strawberry Freezer Jam from last summer to mind. I made a lot, and it needs to be eaten! I wondered how I could use it, then I thought of Hot Pepper Jelly poured over cream cheese. I knew that would make a great little snack to serve my new friends at camp! Then I set to work to turn my freezer jam into hot pepper jelly! It was an easy task!
I purchased fresh jalapenos, chopped them up, and added about a teaspoon to a half pint jar of my strawberry jam. I stirred it in and gave it a taste on a cracker. YUM!! There was enough spice to jazz up the flavor, and enough sweetness from the jam to balance the heat!
Each of the two weeks we’ve been at camp, I have changed up how I served my Hot Pepper Jelly and cream cheese appetizer. The first week, I simply served it like a charcuterie board, with crackers available. I had the ladies serve themselves. Last week I wanted to ease the serving process, so I made up charcuterie cups. I made up “sandwich crackers” with the cream cheese and jelly, and added skewers of fruit and also meat and cheese. I finished it off with a chocolate in each cup. This made serving so much easier. Each lady could simply pick up and a cup and enjoy!
Like any charcuterie board, these cups are so versatile. Pinterest has lots of fun ideas with the food combinations. From breakfast foods to desserts, you can customize the cups for your the time of day you’re entertaining, make it simple like mine, or get a little more fancy! If you’re entertaining a group, these are a great way for everyone to be served easily.
Jesus was always inviting people to come to Him. Is there a place/time where you could make an invitation to others to come and enjoy fellowship? Pray and watch the Lord provide the time and also the idea that will be just right for those you want to serve! I’m so grateful that I can take those “little” needs to the Lord and know He cares enough to help me!
Also, why not spice up your summer jams with a jalapeno so you can make this delicious appetizer?!
Refresh others with your hospitality!
