Creating a Christmas Gathering

I’ve been adding Christmas/winter decor to my home like the Lord sends the new season…a little at a time. I’ve found it far less tiring and lots more fun! I’m getting ready – not just for Christmas, but also for a gathering in my home this week for the ladies of my church. I’m hosting my second Christmas Cake and Coffee party! It was so much fun last year, that I wanted to be sure to put it on the calendar again.

We go to all the work of decorating our homes so beautifully for Christmas that it only makes sense that we would open our doors and invite others in. It’s the perfect time to be hospitable.

In preparation for my party I’ve baked a couple of cakes so far. The layers are in the freezer, awaiting the fillings and icings. Later this week I will finish the cakes, purchase the items needed for my punch and give the house a once over.

We’re going to make a simple craft in small groups. Last year the craft time created such good opportunities for small groups gathered around tables to chat and fellowship with one another.

A gift exchange, a devotional and then CAKE are the order for the rest of the evening. I love to cut the lights down low and enjoy the twinkle of the Christmas lights and candles. It’s so festive and fun!

This will be a busy week with my party and a couple other events we have planned. What a sweet time of the year this is! I hope you have some fun things planned. If you haven’t been invited to a Christmas party or event, why not open your doors to invite a neighbor or two over for coffee and cookies? It doesn’t have to be something grand.

This is the perfect time of year to share the hope of Christmas. What is the hope?
We all needed a Savior and Jesus came as Emmanuel – God with us. All the brokenness in our lives points to our need. This is why He came. We are all helpless and on our way to hell. Jesus took our sin on Himself, suffered, died and then rose again that we might be forgiven. Without Him, life is hopeless, but in Christ is abundant life! Who could you tell, and how could you create an opportunity for that door to be opened to you? Make a call. Give an invitation. You’ll be glad you did.

Have a great week in this wonderful season!

  1. Love your Christmas decor, Denise, and the how you framed the idea of “decorating a little at a time” so positively. I was just complaining (to be honest) to my husband this morning about how I’ve only been able to decorate in snippets this year and I want it to finally be done. Thanks for giving me another way to see that! Your ladies’ party sounds like such fun and the reminder for inviting people in– sharing JESUS–even better!

    1. Thank you. My decor is very simple and I’ve even left a good bit of decorations in the box this year. I’m trying to focus on what’s really important and let go of the rest. maybe it’s a sign of my age and also the busyness of life.

You always encourage me. I am grateful for you.

I left to comment on your blog this morning regarding your Thanksgiving, but I’m not sure what happened to it.😅 Anyway, it was so much fun to see and read!!

      1. On no, I’m sorry about that, Denise! I don’t see it, not even in spam–so strange. But thank you for reading and I’m glad you enjoyed the post. 🙂 I’m very grateful for you too!
