Most of us are probably drumming our fingers, waiting for spring to arrive. I enjoyed the snow days when they came in January and early February, but I’m pretty excited about some warm, sunny days. Anyone else?
While I’m waiting for the Lord to change the season, I know He’s at work changing me. He’s helping me to trust Him in the cold, praise Him on the dark days, and be mindful of wisely using these days inside to prepare for what is to come in the springtime.
How can we all prepare for the spring days that are truly just ahead? Here are some things that I’m doing now:
- Go through your spring wardrobe and discard that which doesn’t fit anymore or is worn out. Make a list of what you need to replace. Then you can have your eyes open for those items as you shop and you will be a step ahead of the other shoppers, grabbing what you need as soon as it arrives in store or on-line. If you shop consignments, it’s really wise to look early!
- Put together some spring outfits on Pinterest that are light layers – perfect for the changing temperatures.

- Start thinking about Easter. How will you celebrate the resurrection of our Savior? Who could you be praying about inviting to attend church services with you? Who could you invite to dinner? Those early invitations help people be able to plan ahead and join you.
- How will you decorate? Those cute spring items at Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby are in the stores now, so again, it’s wise to shop early.
- If you’re a gardener, start thinking about your garden and what you’ll need to replace or what you want to add.
- Start thinking about your spring cleaning, too. You could even begin now so when the days are warm, you can enjoy the outdoors! I have a whole series about spring cleaning your whole house. You can read it here. You can listen to the step by step podcast here.
- Plan time with friends during these “waiting days.” Create some great fellowship Perhaps you could invite friends over for a game night and popcorn. Laughter is good medicine, after all! We love Rummikub. I was also recently re-introduced to Skipbo. Both are games for 2+ players. A friend recently sent us Spouseology – a game for couples to see how well you know one another. We’re looking forward to playing it soon with another married couple.
- Do you have something pretty to hang on the front door? Perhaps you need to purchase or make/refresh a spring wreath.
- Think about some spring menu items you could make that would reflect the seasonal fruits and veggies.
These things are keeping me busy while I wait for my favorite season when everything comes alive! I want it to find me full of life and joy when it gets here!
I hope you’ll refresh yourself during these last weeks (okay, maybe more for some!) of winter. Spring will come if Jesus doesn’t come first! What a thought that is!
