Reflecting on My Dad’s Love: A Father’s Day Tribute

This Father’s Day weekend, I have been thinking much about my dad who has been in heaven for a little more than two years. His passing was hard, but honestly, he had suffered so much that we were all relieved that he was no longer sick, but was now in heaven with His Savior. As the song goes, “All is peace forevermore, on that happy Golden Shore.” I can only imagine all he has been enjoying since his feet touched that Golden shore!

There are many things that I desperately miss about him that made him the best father a daughter could ask for. Here are just three…

When Death Threatens You

Yesterday morning I woke up with an old memory very fresh in my mind.  I was reminded of a day when I was a 13 year-old girl living in Winchester, Kentucky.  I had gone to my bedroom to hang my jacket on the hook on the back of my door.  I tilted my head back and lifted my arms to raise my coat up, and when I did, the sour ball candy that was in my mouth slid down my throat like a speeding bowling ball on a well-greased lane.  I couldn’t cough, gasp or breathe.  It was STUCK in my windpipe.

Then a couple weeks ago my daughter told me she asked Chat GPT to create a menu for her! In a matter of seconds, she had a week’s worth of meals, complete with shopping list!

“Mom, Dad.  We need to talk.  I’m …

  • pregnant.”
  • not sure the God you’ve taught me about all my life is real.”
  • quitting college and moving in with my boyfriend.”
  • leaving home.  I’m tired of all your rules.”
  • choosing another lifestyle.”

Many, many Christian parents who thought they were doing the right thing with their child for all their growing up years have had to hear hard words like these.  The parents’ hearts are torn apart.  I’m not sure if there is any pain as difficult for a mother or father to endure than when their heart is breaking over their child who has gone astray.
