The Consequences of Trying to Control Our Circumstances

You can listen to this post here on Refresh Her Podcast.

Have you ever wished you could just run away? Ever wanted to be done with the hardships you’re facing? We read in Scripture of a woman who didn’t just want to run – she did it!

In Genesis 16 we read about Hagar, a woman who was caught in a difficult situation. There is a struggle happening because Sarai had gotten impatient with God as she waited for Him to give her and Abram a son.

What do we often do when we get tired of waiting? Improvise!

We cannot mix faith and flesh. Warren Wiersbe

A Fall Road Trip & Family Recipes

I had the blessing of making a trip to Kentucky this weekend to visit with my mom. The trip here was a beautiful fall drive through the Cumberland Gap. The trip on that route is always refreshing, but on Saturday the colors made me gasp! The curvy roads dotted with barns and silos were even prettier with the autumn colors as a backdrop. I’m thankful that the trip is an easy one. I enjoy listening to an audio book while I drive. It truly makes the time pass quickly. Then conversations with my girls and my husband also made the trip easier!

Not long after I arrived at my mom’s house she said, “Guess what we’re having for supper?” Many things popped into my head that she is known for, but before I had a time to start guessing she said, “Herbed Chicken!” Oh my, this recipe takes fried chicken up a sophisticated notch! The chicken breast is filled with an herbed cream cheese mixture and it’s heavenly! I haven’t made it for a couple of years, so I was excited about the supper meal coming in a few hours! I first shared the recipe here – a long time ago!

Fall Outfit Ideas

The month of October…wow! It has been glorious! We’ve had cool mornings and evenings with warm, sunshine in-between. The colors on the trees are turning yellows and reds, with clear blue skies as the backdrop. Though I love summer, I’m beginning to wonder if October might be the best month of the year!

I’m trying to squeeze in every front porch rocking chair moment and back porch swing I can, knowing that this won’t last forever! Soon enough I’ll be peeking out of frosted glass onto a frozen tundra outside.

In the meantime, I’m finding it a bit challenging to know how to dress each day. With the swing in temps, it’s hard to have on the right kind of clothes for the change that happens mid-day. Do you struggle, too? My go-to is LAYERS. I usually try to find thin layers in the fall. My season of life also has to be taken into account!! I went to my closet this week and pulled out a few ideas. If you need a little inspiration, I hope this will help!

Ten Things This Mom Would Do Again

You can listen to this post on Refresh Her podcast.

My mommy days are behind me now, and as I’m watching others in this special, yet demanding role, I have done some reminiscing over the years when my girls were young.  I have plenty of regrets, as all moms do, but I’m not going to dwell on those, because I can’t change them, and because doing so would not fall under the Philippians 4:8 things I should think about!  It’s in the past. But there are things that were so good about those days.  As I think back, I remember things that we did that I would definitely do again, if I had the chance.

The Best Broccoli Soup for Soup Season

With mid-October upon us this week, hearty, comforting soups are on my mind for supper meals. My husband and I really love Soup season. I have a pretty big variety of soup recipes that I have made over and over through the years. Maybe part of the reason we enjoy them is because of the memories of cool nights our round oak table accented with dripping candles, my harvest-colored bowls, fall cloth napkins, and my playlist I named, “Autumn” playing on Alexa. It’s cozy, homey and inviting. Fall perfection.

A couple weeks ago I had some purchased some broccoli to make, “The Best Broccoli Soup.” I’ve shared this in the past, but like so many of my recipes, I had shared it with another recipe, and it didn’t get a good spotlight. I wanted to share it before your soup season gets rolling. This recipe feeds a family and is so cost-effective. The night I made this, my daughter and her family dropped in and I invited them so stay for dinner. There was plenty for the six of us.
