Managing My Emotions

You can listen to this post here on the Refresh Her podcast.

God made women to be emotional beings.  Those emotions can be a good thing that makes us useful for the Lord. For instance – It gives us empathy towards others that are hurting.  It gives us compassion for those that need Christ.  It gives us a great ability to love our family deeply and sacrificially. It gives us joy at being a homemaker.

But we have to be really careful that we don’t use our emotional attribute as an excuse for being moody or overly emotional. When I get moody, it makes me unpredictable, grumpy, and no fun to be with. I hate it! It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.” Prov 21:19 Contentious means touchy, prickly. Do others wonder how they’re going to find us today?  We’re a joy one day, and touchy the next?

Meal plans for This Week

I’m making my menu after being away from home a week and a half. A sweet friend offered to pick up my grocery order for me so I’d have food ready for meals when we got home. What a blessing! Kroger has a super deal right now – $15 off a $75 pick-up order. Love that, too!

Come along while I plan out some of the meals we’ll eat this week!

Responding to Our “Wild Child”

We know that children are a gift from God – especially when they first come into our family. Whether it’s a natural birth, fostering or adoption, they were leant to us from the Lord, and we recognize this.

Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. Psalm 127:3-5

They are squishy, funny, curious and precious. But they can also be messy, sassy, and willful. They act out in public and we blush and say, “This is my ‘Wild Child’.” A parent can be at their wit’s end to know how to deal with them, and if they were honest, they might even admit that they’re afraid to try to deal with them because of the backlash they would encounter from the child. Does this sound like you and your son or daughter? How can we deal with these difficult things and keep pointing them to Christ so that they will live out their days for His glory?

Baked Huli Huli Chicken

Is there anything so delectable as a chicken thigh cooked so that the skin is crispy? Oh, yum! I recently came across a recipe on Cooktop Cove for a delicious chicken dish using thighs that are smothered in a marinade and baked, then topped with pineapple slices. I tried this last week for the first time (on company! Par for the course!). The thighs were tender and juicy and the skin was a little crispy and delightful!

I liked the recipe because the sauce made plenty to use as a marinade and there was also still plenty for brushing on while it was cooking, and some to serve with the chicken at the table.
