The Love of the Father

We’ve all heard about baby cubs and the danger of being near one.  Why?  Because their momma is somewhere very nearby and is ready to attack in order to protect her baby.

But human parents can be just as protective.  After hearing about what seemed an unfair treatment recently with one of my girls, I wanted to go set somebody straight!  Of course I wouldn’t have torn anybody apart like the momma bear, but just wanted to “share a piece of my mind”! I restrained myself, however and simply prayed about the situation!   Any other moms been in this place?  We all probably have.  We love our children and want to protect them from unfair treatment.

Now, let’s magnify that a thousand times and think about God the Father’s love for His Son.  What kept Him from calling a score of angels to rescue Jesus from the cross?  He could have done it and they would have obeyed.  He loved His Son, yet His love for us is as great. (Amazing, isn’t it?) He knew that without this perfect Sacrifice you and I would never be restored to a relationship with Him.  He turned His back on Christ while He bore our sin so that you and I could have forgiveness and eternal life.  This was far more than restraint…this was perfect, sacrificial love for YOU and ME.

The Love of God by Frederick M. Lehman so beautifully describes the wonderful love of the Father.  Here are the words:

 The love of God is greater far

Than tongue or pen can ever tell;

It goes beyond the highest star,

And reaches to the lowest hell;

The guilty pair, bowed down with care,

God gave His Son to win;

His erring child He reconciled,

And pardoned from his sin.

Refrain:

Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!

How measureless and strong!

It shall forevermore endure—

The saints’ and angels’ song.
Could we with ink the ocean fill,

And were the skies of parchment made,

Were every stalk on earth a quill,

And every man a scribe by trade;

To write the love of God above

Would drain the ocean dry;

Nor could the scroll contain the whole,

Though stretched from sky to sky.

See you in church Easter Sunday.  We have lots to celebrate, don’t we?  Our church is doing the drama we did for our Ladies’ Winter Tea – When Jesus Comes.  If you live in the area I hope you’ll join us!  It’s going to be a great day at Boones Creek!

With love,

P.S. BCBC ladies, make sure you’re ready for Bible study this coming Monday night.  Finish up your lessons in Week 5, if you’re not done yet.  Please join us…this study on Loving God with All Your Mind has been such a blessing!
