This Sunday is Easter – my favorite holiday! I’m excited about attending our church services, worshiping the Lord with a thankful heart, hearing God’s Word preached, and then having guests in our home for a special Easter dinner. What a great day to look forward to!
Because the meal is quite involved, I knew I needed to really get my plans organized. I even started my preparations last weekend. I thought I’d share my plans with you about how I am working to get everything ready as much ahead of time so I won’t be overwhelmed on Easter. I want to enjoy the day – not be wondering why I invited guests in my home!
Here’s my menu and my daily schedule. I’m inviting a crowd so I’ve planned accordingly! ~
Turkey Breast ~ Spiral Ham
Mac & cheese ~ Green Beans ~ Sweet Potato Casserole
Deviled Eggs ~ Green Salad with Apples
Biscuits
Frozen Peanut Butter Pie ~ Coconut Cake with Lemon Filling
- Saturday – Make Frozen Peanut Butter Pie
- Monday – Make Cake layers and freeze
- Tuesday – Make Lemon filling
- Wednesday – Iron linens for the tables
- Friday – Put meats in fridge to thaw
Make cake frosting and assemble Coconut Cake
Make Sweet potato Casserole
Boil eggs - Saturday – Get dry ingredients ready for biscuits
Make deviled eggs
Cook and slice ham
Set tables
On Sunday I’ll finish preparations of the turkey, gravy, green beans, salad and biscuits, (Alli is bringing the Mac and cheese).
It may sound like a lot, but when you break down all the tasks, it makes it doable and much easier with just a task or two each day.
Having a special meal at home on a special day is a sweet blessing. You get to set the tone with quiet music and your restful heart – and that happens much easier if you work ahead!
I hope this helps you to prepare for Easter or your next big event!
Denise, sounds wonderful. Your last comments about a restful meal at home reminded me of our friends, Dave and Jean Potter, missionaries to Hungary. They visited with us after being with you and your husband and enjoying a meal in your home. They commented that it is so rare these days that a meal in the home happens and they enjoyed it so much!

Thank you; that means so much. We so enjoyed having the Potter’s here with us! I think it’s a special blessing to bring in God’s servants and have a meal at home with them. It’s a privilege to get to serve those who are weary! I’m always glad we opened our home!

Your menu sounds SO delicious! I’m not nearly as prepared as I would like to be, but I have all evening Friday and all day Saturday – and I’ll have a much smaller crowd than you. I’m so excited for Easter Sunday, too! 🙂
