(L)Oven Monday – Baked Parmesan Crisps

Who doesn’t enjoy a little snack between meals?  But when you’re trying to be careful of what you eat, it’s hard to find something that’s not too fattening, but will give you a yummy morsel that will fight off the hunger pains between meals!

On a recent shopping trip to Sam’s Club, I passed a pile of bags holding Parmesan Crisps.  Knowing that these would fit into my low-carb routine, I pulled a bag down.  There really weren’t a whole lot in the bag and they were $9!  That’s steep for a snack or even an additive to salad or soup.  I put the bag back and marched home to make my own, as I have done a number of times in the past.

I’ve made these as little appetizers and they always go over like crazy.  To make them you only need one ingredient – shredded Parmesan Cheese! If you’d like, you can add seasonings.  I added cracked black pepper to mine.  You could use garlic powder, oregano, thyme… You get the idea!

You simply make a pile of about a tablespoon of the cheese onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and pop them into a 400 degree oven for about 6-8 minutes, or just til the edges begin to brown.  Let them cool slightly and then remove them from the pan to a cooling rack.  They will crisp up and be delicious!

You can eat them as is, or add them to a salad or a bowl of soup for a great addition!

Shredded Parmesan Cheese
Any seasoning of your choice, if you’d like
Parchment paper (you can find this at the Dollar Tree!)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Line baking pan with parchment paper.  Mound 1 tbl of shredded Parmesan cheese onto baking sheet.  Make however many you’d like, just space them out a couple inches from each other. Sprinkle on seasoning or herbs now, if you choose.  Bake for 6-8 minutes, or until lightly browned.  Cool slightly then remove to cool on a baking sheet.  I stored mine in the fridge in a Ziploc bag.

Yum, chewy, salty and just what is needed between meals!

Have you ever had these?  Don’t they look tempting?
