I remember a pastor saying that every seat in a church holds someone who is suffering. In one way or another, each of us is going through something today. How do we get through it? How do we stay encouraged? How do we not feel overwhelmed and desperate?
By thinking the truth. Not the truth as you see it or feel it, but truth according to God’s Word.
The grass withers and the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. Isaiah 40:8
The difference there is that what we see is not always accurate, and how we feel will change, but God’s Word is steadfast and unmovable, and it’s the only thing that truly helps!
It comforts us.
It gives us hope.
It gives us direction for the days ahead.
Thy words were found and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by my name, Oh LORD God of hosts. Jeremiah 15:16
God’s word also gives us something to say to someone else who is hurting.
If you know someone who is struggling with a difficulty today, send them a promise from God’s word. Send a card with Scripture (they sell really good ones at Hobby Lobby). Or write out your favorite scripture promise on a card. However you do it, just find something that will be a sweet comfort to the receiver. Refrain from sending your humanistic thoughts and give them God’s thoughts instead.
God’s words will refresh someone who is suffering unlike anything you and I could ever say.
Why not purposefully look for someone to whom you could send a card today and refresh their day with Truth?
“Not the truth as you see it or feel it, but truth according to God’s Word.”
Denise, I’m saving this wise quote from your post. I appreciate your words here and the reminder that God is steady and unchanging, unlike our wavering emotions and feelings. Thank you!
