How’s your summer going, moms of school-age children? If you need a fun little project to perk up the mid-summer doldrums, I have a fun and easy project/craft/activity for you and your child that is inexpensive, easy, quick, and doesn’t make a huge mess. This is a modeling dough that is so much easier to clean up than play dough!
Have you heard of Moon Dough? It’s a dough, similar to playdough, but has a completely different texture. This was new to me until this summer when I was wanting to entertain some young guests in my home. This easy “recipe” mixed up in minutes and only has two ingredients! If you’re working with young children, I would recommend you mix up the dough ahead of time and just let them play with it. If the children are older, you can supervise while they do the mixing.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Ingredients:
1 Cup of Hair conditioner – Use a fragrance-free or one with a mild fragrance. It is really amplified as you mix the dough. I think mine was Ocean breeze. I’ll take ALL of that aroma that I can get!
2 Cups of Corn Starch
Instructions:
In a large bowl, mix the conditioner and the corn starch. It will be sticky, but will be less so as the ingredients get combined. Remove it from the bowl and knead it until it becomes soft. This will take a few minutes. Once you get it to the consistency you like, It’s time to roll, cut, and shape to your heart’s content!
My young friends had so much fun playing with the Moon Dough! Anything that is left behind on the floor or counter feels like the corn starch, so it sweeps/wipes up very easily. I found that it didn’t leave little bits of dough, like playdough does.
Once my guests were finished playing with it, I put it into a Ziplock bag and tucked it away for another use. It remained soft and pliable.
Mix up a batch, and then the next time a child asks, “Mom what can I do?” Tell them to play with the Moon! They’ll love it!
Refresh your mid-summer with something fun!
