Stillness

I have to laugh when I look at the pictures on my phone. I noticed recently that I have a LOT of pictures of the road that I walk on every day. You have to understand there there is nothing on this road except for farmland on either side and a silo at the end of it. Oh, the cows stare at me from their morning breakfast of grasses, and occasionally a barn cat will greet me, but that’s it. I seldom see a person or have a car pass by.

As I consider all that I just described to you, it comes to my mind why I love that little road so much. I love it for its stillness. When my feet turn from the main road to that dead end, I often begin to weep. This place begs for conversations with my God. I begin to praise Him for the gift of this place and time. There is a cardinal that lives in a tree on that road and it often joins me in my praise. How often I’ve talked to that little bird, saying,

I Know little guy. God is caring for you and He is also caring for me!

As I walk and pray, my burdens are lifted. There are no distractions. No voices. No pressing needs. All I hear is the stillness as I witness God’s hand in the creation around me and as I hear His voice speak to me. It’s priceless. I walk home with that stillness hovering in my heart because I’ve had the chance to appropriate the peace of God at the beginning of my day.

Do you regularly enjoy the stillness of time with the Lord?
Perhaps stillness will be found in a room in your home, a rocker on a porch, on the sidewalk of your neighborhood, or a corner in your bedroom or closet. I don’t know where your place will be, but I know that if you ask God for it, He will help you find the place and the time.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God;

This weekend would be a great time for yo to get alone and enjoy some stillness with the Lord.

It must be fought for.
It must be prioritized.
It must be treasured.

Be still and be blessed.

  1. We are kindred spirits, Denise! Many of the pics on my phone are from my morning walks too. It’s such a peaceful time with God before the world gets busy around me. Have a nice weekend!
