Meeting Jamie Deen

I am a huge Paula Deen fan! I love her old show, her You Tube channel, and her restaurants! I’ve gotten to eat at Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen in Pigeon Forge and it was delicious!

I learned from Whitney that her son, Jamie’s restaurant in Savannah was really good, too. So when my husband and I recently took a road trip to Florida, I asked if we could stop and eat at The Chicken Box. Not only did I want to try the fried chicken, I was in hopes of getting to see and possibly meet Jamie. Well…

I was not disappointed!

We had just walked into the take-out restaurant and one of the workers was telling us about the menu. I heard a voice in the back and thought it sounded like Jamie, but then doubted myself. A moment later, he popped his head around the corner! I said, “Oh, wow! I think I need a picture!” I was just going to snap one of him standing there, but his southern hospitality shone when he said, “Do you want a picture of all of us together?” The answer was, “Yes, please!”

He suggested we step out the door where it was brighter. After the photo was taken, he asked where we were from and we chatted like we were long-time friends! I was so touched by his friendliness. He said, “Thirty-five years ago I never would’ve believed someone would want a picture of me!” He is as humble and kind as he is tall!

The food was delicious! Dale and I both had the fried chicken. It was perfection! The mac and cheese and broccoli casserole were both very good as well! We sat out under the outdoor heaters and enjoyed the Georgia sunshine on that cool day.

The Chicken Box was a great “scenic route” spot for our trip home from Florida! Of course the added blessing of meeting Jamie added to the adventure! Friends, if you’re going near Savannah, you need to put The Chicken Box on your places to visit! Maybe, just maybe you’ll get to meet Jamie while you’re there!
