Most of the time when I think of having a Valentine’s Day meal, I think of the whole big, blown out menu like, steak, baked potatoes, salad, bread, and dessert. This year I decided on something completely different, and we may have enjoyed it even more! I decided I’d do a charcuterie board with my husband’s favorite things. He LOVED it!
Most of the items I used came from Aldi, my favorite place to get delicious fruit and cheeses. I discovered one new cheese – Stilton with cranberries. It was so creamy, and the dried cranberries in it gave it a delicious sweetness. I also served a cheddar and Provolone cheese.
Turkey pepperoni was the only meat on the board, but it was perfect on the variety pack of crackers I found at Aldi. I added blueberries and fresh cherries – mostly for their color!
For sweetness I added Strawberry flavored (and heart-shaped!) pretzels and chocolate covered blueberries. Perfect!
I served this at lunchtime because I had a Zoom meeting I was attending right after the supper hour, but lunchtime is the perfect time for charcuterie boards! I even considered a movie night board, which I will do in the near future. The options are endless, as I shared here.
My board included:
- Pepperoni
- Stilton with Cranberries
- Cheddar and Provolone cheese
- Almonds
- Carrots
- Blueberries
- Cherries
- Crackers with dried figs
- Variety pack crackers
- Chocolate covered blueberries
- Strawberry covered pretzels
Of course, it’s all about the presentation, too. Use like-colored dishes on a big board and arrange the crackers and cheeses in patterns. Group all the same items together. Ina Garten says, “Don’t make your platter look like dog food!” Ha! That sums it up pretty well!
I hope this inspires you to make a board for your Valentine! What will you add to your board?
