Knowledge Will Lead To Trust

Recently as my husband and I were traversing the desert area of Camp Ironwood where I’m speaking this weekend, we were riding in a golf cart loaned to us by the camp. He had gotten a tour from the camp director when we were here the last time, and even though it was three years ago, I knew that he knew exactly where we were going as we climbed sandy hillsides and crossed back roads. I wasn’t afraid we’d lose our way because I know what a navigator he is! He rarely ever doesn’t know exactly where we are!

After 45 years of marriage, my knowledge of my husband does several things.

  1. It causes me to anticipate his next move. I often know what he’s going to say, what story he’ll tell, or what he will do.
  2. It also causes me to trust that next move. I don’t worry that he’ll say something rude to someone or be selfish. That would go against who he is.

In a much greater way, knowing the character of God does the same thing for my heart. At times that t may start to fret, I remember that before I even ask, He is already providing in His way and time.

When I’m burdened about someone, I’m reminded that God is always at work drawing our hearts to Him and He Will do that for this one I care about.

When my mind starts playing the “If only“ game, I remember that His ways are higher than mine and my past is not an accident, my physical makeup is not a joke, and my future is safe in His keeping.

Our deepening knowledge of God must come from daily time with Him. Watch what He does in Scripture. Listen to what He says. Hear what the Word tells us He is, and then sit quietly in the golf cart and trust His next move.

Oh, we won’t know exactly how He’ll respond, but we’ll know we can trust Him because we’re close enough to trust His character.

And if you ever get lost, Dale Cunningham is your man to call! Ask me how I know.
