The Most Valuable Gift – You!

With our grandson’s birthdays approaching, the question in our minds was,

“What can we give them that will be meaningful?”

If we had asked them, their answer would have been another leggo set or some other favorite toy that is on their list, which would have been fun, of course! However, as we considered our choices, we decided we would rather spend time with them. Also, being a twin myself, I also decided that we would have them one at a time, rather than together so we could focus on each boy.

As I prayed about it, I asked the Lord what we could do that each of them would enjoy. The results were a passel full of memories made and such sweet times together!

This Changes EVERYTHING!

Adorned #14 – You can listen to this post here on the Refresh Her podcast.

I don’t know if your mother had a saying that you remember, but my mom used to tell me and my sisters to “Act pretty.”  It has nothing to do with outward appearance, She was telling us to be kind.  We all have to be reminded of that…even in our adult years!

Paul tells us in Titus 2, Older women are to teach what is good, and to train the young women to  love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, and kind.

Why does he have to remind us of this?  Because it’s so easy for us to DO all the things we should be doing, but with the wrong attitude.  We can do the laundry, cook a meal and make the house spotless, but be huffing and puffing a bad attitude while doing so. (I’m So guilty!)

Turkey Breast Delight

Recently Whitney came to our area for a few days. We won’t be spending Thanksgiving Day together, so I thought I’d invite her for dinner and have a “Thanksgiving meal.” (She was staying at her sister’s house.) I opted for a turkey breast, rather than a whole turkey since I wasn’t feeding a crowd, and also because I think a turkey breast is so much better than a whole turkey! Why? Well consider…

A turkey breast…

  • Cooks faster
  • Is easier to handle
  • Provides only that sweet white meat
  • Doesn’t need constant attention when it’s roasting in the oven
  • Still makes great gravy
  • Takes less space in the fridge
  • Could be cooked in a slow cooker

Cozy, Inviting Fall Decor

Happy November! This has been a gorgeous fall season in Tennessee! The colors have been amazingly vibrant! The temps have been cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon. Perfection!

My kitchen chalkboard says that “All at once, summer collapses into fall,” but in reality, it happens gradually. Each day becomes a little shorter, the mornings slowly get cooler, the leaves gradually change colors, and then fall to the ground. That’s the same way I like to add fall decor to my home – gradually. Myquilin Smith taught me that decor philosophy several years ago, and I just love that method. It feels natural, because it is.

Hey, Weary Mom…

Adorned Series #13 – You can listen to this post here on Refresh Her podcast.

Hectic school routines, multiple discipline issues, outrages and temper tantrums, messes, stresses, spills and strong wills might describe your mothering yesterday, but I’m here to remind you that there is grace for the task in front of you today, dear mom!

Many women feel so overwhelmed at their task of mothering.  I can remember wondering what it would feel like to just hop in the car mid-morning and head to the grocery store.  That’s my high energy time!  I thought about how fun it would be to be able to just GO!  But I was a homeschooling mother, with two girls to train and educate.  Our days were full and I usually went to the store at the end of the day when I was weary.  However, it was not a sacrifice!
