Mentoring – It’s Your Responsibility and Blessing

This is the Final chapter of Adorned, by Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth. You can listen to this post here on the Refresh Her podcast.

Do any of these describe you?

  • A young mom fought for control of her children. Not knowing how to make them obey, she promised rewards, and also threatened they’d lose everything they owned. The children won; the mom was disheartened and worn down.
  • A husband and wife are on two separate pages. He does his thing, she does hers. The co-exist under one roof.
  • Self-control is on the back burner. Whatever she wants, she has, not even thinking of the long-term personal cost.
  • Depression is a way of life for her. She doesn’t even know how she’ll put her feet on the floor tomorrow.

On and on the scenarios go. It seems that every single day I’m reminded of the reasons behind books like, Adorned. Many times I’ve been one of the women I described above. But how I thank the Lord for the Gospel – the fact that Jesus Christ lived, died and rose again to give me eternal life and also abundant life in this present time. My life can have purpose, my marriage and parenting can gain direction. I am able to have wisdom to move forward and strength to overcome sin. That’s the story of the Gospel and the message behind Adorned that we’ve been studying for the 15 weeks.

Who do you know that needs the truths we’ve talked about? Once we know these truths, we are responsible to share them with another woman so she can walk in growth and victory.

Fresh Taco Salad for Lunch

I often find lunch a difficult meal to make. I could probably fix a different kind of sandwich every day and be a happy camper, but I try to limit bread, so I don’t want to make us sandwiches very often. So what are we to have that will be filling, healthy and delicious?

I found this recipe for Fresh Taco Salad in Better Homes and Gardens Magazine years ago and found that it was the perfect recipe for lunchtime! It has all the taco flavors we love served in the form of a healthy salad.

This comes together in minutes, making it a easy to prepare for a lunch meal!

The Most Valuable Gift – You!

With our grandson’s birthdays approaching, the question in our minds was,

“What can we give them that will be meaningful?”

If we had asked them, their answer would have been another leggo set or some other favorite toy that is on their list, which would have been fun, of course! However, as we considered our choices, we decided we would rather spend time with them. Also, being a twin myself, I also decided that we would have them one at a time, rather than together so we could focus on each boy.

As I prayed about it, I asked the Lord what we could do that each of them would enjoy. The results were a passel full of memories made and such sweet times together!

This Changes EVERYTHING!

Adorned #14 – You can listen to this post here on the Refresh Her podcast.

I don’t know if your mother had a saying that you remember, but my mom used to tell me and my sisters to “Act pretty.”  It has nothing to do with outward appearance, She was telling us to be kind.  We all have to be reminded of that…even in our adult years!

Paul tells us in Titus 2, Older women are to teach what is good, and to train the young women to  love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, and kind.

Why does he have to remind us of this?  Because it’s so easy for us to DO all the things we should be doing, but with the wrong attitude.  We can do the laundry, cook a meal and make the house spotless, but be huffing and puffing a bad attitude while doing so. (I’m So guilty!)

Turkey Breast Delight

Recently Whitney came to our area for a few days. We won’t be spending Thanksgiving Day together, so I thought I’d invite her for dinner and have a “Thanksgiving meal.” (She was staying at her sister’s house.) I opted for a turkey breast, rather than a whole turkey since I wasn’t feeding a crowd, and also because I think a turkey breast is so much better than a whole turkey! Why? Well consider…

A turkey breast…

  • Cooks faster
  • Is easier to handle
  • Provides only that sweet white meat
  • Doesn’t need constant attention when it’s roasting in the oven
  • Still makes great gravy
  • Takes less space in the fridge
  • Could be cooked in a slow cooker
