A Fun Weekend that Included the Bible Recap Live

These early fall days have been full of blessings from the Lord’s hands. It hasn’t really felt like fall with temps still rising to the 80’s, but we’ve enjoyed some fall activities anyway.

Whitney and I have been reading the Bible chronologically for the last few years using The Bible Recap with Tara Leigh Cobble. Months ago we purchased tickets to attend a Live Bible Recap in Greenville, SC. We were excited to hear Tara Leigh and be a part of this event. It far exceeded my expectations!

My sweet husband went along as my driver, but he also had “business” that kept him busy while Whitney and I were at the Live event. He and I stopped in Weaverville on our way at our favorite little bakery spot where we enjoyed lunch and shared a Molasses Cookie the size of your face!

Spiritual Eye Surgery

You can listen to this post here on Refresh Her podcast.

Last year at a yearly examination at my optometrist’s office, the doctor slid his chair back and said, “You can plan on having eye surgery sometime this year. Your cataracts are ready to come off.”

I was so surprised! I was seeing well! Oh, magazine print was a little difficult, and driving at night wasn’t the best, but magazines are using lighter print than they used to, and why do cars have such bright lights on them now? There wasn’t anything really wrong with my eyes, but okay, I went along with the doctor and my first surgery was scheduled.

It happened first thing in the morning. That evening when the dilation had lessened I could not believe what I was seeing. Colors were so bright! Even white was different! The threads on fabrics were so pronounced I couldn’t believe my eyes. When I looked in the mirror, I had aged 10 years in a matter of hours!

Happy January 1, 2024! It’s easy to get enthused about new things like an exercise regimen or weight loss…or reading through the Bible, and then LIFE happens.

Yikes.

You can’t walk because you have a dentist appointment. You are invited to a friend’s birthday event, and the only food offered is pizza and chocolate cake. You missed your Bible reading because you overslept and had to dash to the dentist! What do you do?

Join Me In 2024 as We Read Through the Bible

Each morning after making the bed, I head to the couch in our family room, coffee cup and Bible in tow. Seated where I have a view of the dawning of the day, I sip my coffee from its warm cup topped with frothy cream. On my lap is my Bible, my journal and a pen. I stop and pray, asking the Spirit of God to teach me truth from this precious Book. As I read, the sky isn’t the only thing that is illuminated. The verses and chapters from God’s Word go from my eyes to my heart. God teaches me about Himself and His Son. My understanding is

Read the Bible With me in 2023

I’m nearly finished reading through the Bible again, but I have to admit it – I had been very hesitant about reading through the Bible chronologically! I have read through the Bible many other times using a plan that had a little in the Old Testament, some in the New Testament, a Psalm and a Proverb. It was so comfortable! When I considered the chronological plan, all I could think of was DAYS ON END of reading the hard passages in the Old Testament with no breaks in-between the long lists of names or tribes or kings or cities. I am embarrassed to tell you the real reason I didn’t want to do it.
