Word to the Wise Wednesday

Red, White and Beautiful!
I have always enjoyed decorating for all the holidays. I believe my girls enjoyed the decorations too – not just as little children, but also as they grew older. I think it’s special for them to remember Mom always putting certain things out for each holiday, or making fun foods to celebrate. It’s fun to incorporate the season in my home decor. Fourth of July is a favorite holiday for us, and I’ve collected lots of patriotic things. All the rest of the year they are the decor for the den in the basement. But for the 4th, I gather many of the items together and make a patriotic display in my kitchen.

I found this quilted pillow sham at Dollywood marked down to practically nothing a couple years ago. It looks a bit like a little throw without the pillow in it, so I placed it across the back of my bench in the kitchen. Liza Jane is showing her allegiance by taking her afternoon nap below it!

You’ve seen this shelf many times. It’s my main display place for seasonal decorations. It’s best to bunch similar themed things together for a display, rather than scatter them all over the house. It makes a more powerful statement (learned that the hard way!).

Just below the shelf is my counter where these place mats sit. This is our breakfast place. I love it!

I love old books, and the one in the picture below has the sweetest picture of children displaying the American flag.

Isn’t the picture precious? This book is really special to me because it includes many holidays with sweet pictures like the one above.

I also enjoy setting the table to coordinate with the red, white, and blue theme. I have a set of the blue tin plates, and I use red and white napkins with it. I also add red chargers for a bright addition of color.

Have you been on “How Does She?” recently? They have some cute Red, White and Blue cupcakes using the Poke Cake recipe, if you’re familiar with that. The instructions are all there. The cupcake ends up looking like a little flag! Love it!

Don’t miss the chance to do something special in your home and for your family for the Fourth of July. We live in the best country on the earth…celebrate it!

With love,

  2. Sweet Liza Jane! I have all my July 4 things out too. I like that my kitchen is red and yellow because Christmas and July 4 blend in nicely.
