I’m really embarrassed to say this, but the picture above was me one day this week! Yes, my shirt was inside out…and I discovered it just after returning home from a time out with my husband. We’d been to
If it wasn’t bad enough that I’d been that many places wearing my shirt the wrong side out, I bumped into an old friend while standing in line at one store. SHE WAS BEHIND ME when she called my name! I hope she got as good a laugh out of my misplaced wardrobe as I did!
You know how that happened? My husband and I decided last minute that we’d go to town for supper and then run a few errands. I ran to my closet and found something ready to wear, pulled it on in the dark closet, then even added a necklace and headed out! I took a quick glance in the mirror and thought all was good! Lesson learned!
I heard a verse of Scripture from James 1 today that reminded me of my wardrobe failure; it said,
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
The man in verses 24 and 25 are talking about a person who takes a quick glance into the Word of God and isn’t changed by it. They keep going their own way. It has no bearing on their life. It’s as though they never even looked.
Each Friday I post about Family issues – marriage, parenting, outing ideas, etc. But I want to stop today and remind you that you and I cannot make our family what God wants it to be, or all that it can be without time in God’s Word, giving us direction, wisdom, power and understanding. If we are going in our own strength and adding a few activities to make things better, or listening to worldly wisdom all day long and filling our heart with it instead of God’s Word, it’s like adding a necklace to a shirt that’s inside out!
Have you spent regular, quality time in God’s Word this week so you can be the woman God wants you to be with those in your home? Can you remember…
- What chapters did you read?
- What did you learn about God?
- What did God ask you to change?
- What did God teach you?
If your memory is foggy, perhaps you need to “turn the light on in the closet” and get dressed again. Take a long, loving look into the Word of God so you can go in His strength and wisdom to make your family all He desires it to be!
The plus side of my embarrassing “inside out moment” is that now if I have my clothes right side out, I feel like it’s been a successful day! =) If you get your heart right-side-out with God’s Word being your focus, you’ll have a successful day, too!
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua 1:8
Refresh your family with a long look into God’s Word,
