Fun Things Friday – Anniversary Celebration

Yesterday we celebrated our 38th anniversary!  We had the blessing of staying at a lovely lakeside cottage not far from home for two nights.

We slept in a little and then enjoyed a slow morning with coffee and breathtaking views –  even on a rainy morning.

I fixed brunch for us consisting of French Toast with my sour dough bread, blueberries and fresh Maple syrup, accompanied by slices of bacon. Yum.  We seldom eat breakfasts like this, so it was a special treat for a special day!

We drove to Blowing Rock and had supper at Ridgeline (formerly Canyons).  They have the BEST views of Grandfather Mountain, Hawks Bill and other peaks in the distance, and we used to come here for the views.  The new management has bumped the quality of the food way over the top!!  It was so delicious!

We had the day’s special, which means it was made from local foods purchased the Farmer’s market that day!  The Bistro, mashed cauliflower (amazing!), papaya and red peppers was unbelievably flavorful and savory! Our waiter, Sam, was so kind and helpful!  We will definitely be going back – more for the food than just the views! Here was the meal that we shared.  It was plenty for the two of us! We ended with the Key Lime Pie pictured above.  Perfection!

After supper we enjoyed a pretty sunset sky at the lake before heading back to the cottage.

But we also did this on our anniversary – we spent time in prayer together.  This isn’t a stage photo – my husband doesn’t even know I picked up my phone to capture this moment!  It meant so much to me that I just wanted to chronicle it in my picture gallery.  I’m sharing it with you just to say how much our marriage needs it.

We need prayer more than we pray!

We need more times of stopping to ask God for help and guidance.

We were just blessed yesterday with time to actually stop and pray together.  Without it, we’re left to our own devices, and that’s pretty scary!

We had a wonderful time celebrating yesterday, and we’re so very thankful for the 36 hours or so that we had together.  We’ve already had bumps to recover from – just like every other marriage, but we’re determined by God’s grace to finish the race and to finish it together.
