I took a trip recently and saw some beautiful foliage in the trees. The picture above was part of my drive and I have to say, it made me smile at the onset of fall! How beautiful it is!
Change of seasons from summer to fall is all about acceptance. After all, there’s nothing we can do to stop its approach. So, rather than screaming, pouting or even moving south, we decide to decorate the porch, build a fire, sigh at the beauty of the colors, and just enjoy it. It’s all about embracing the season.
The same kind of acceptance of change is needed in my very life. I’m personally in the season of fall. Three quarters of my life is behind me now, and I’m staring winter in the face. How can you and I embrace the new season of our lives? Oh sure, we can “decorate it” by masking the wrinkles, the gray hair and the age spots, but what can we do to accept where we are in life? Let me suggest:
- Find people in Scripture who, at your age, model what you desire to be. I’m aiming at being like Eunice and Lois, Timothy’s mother and grandmother. They taught the Scriptures to young Timothy. Who can I influence with God’s Word? Who can I teach? Into whom can I pour my life?
- Find Scripture that reminds you what a person at that age should look like. For the young – “Let no man despise your youth.” I Tim. 4:12 For the young mom – Teach thy child when you’re sitting, standing or lying down. Deut:6, 4-7. For an older woman – The glory of young men is their strength; and the beauty of old men is the gray head. Prov. 20:29, The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness. Prov. 16:31
- Keep growing, learning and changing. Until we reach heaven, we fail, sin, and need to be changed into God’s likeness. Don’t look behind you at what you have done in the past, but look ahead to what you could still do! Dig into God’s Word, talk to Him and ask Him to show you how you can live for Him in this season, then do it! Keep doing Bible studies. Keep memorizing Scripture. Keep having an effective prayer life! You will never regret it – no matter your age!
Every season has its beauty – even in our life’s seasons. See the beauty in where you are right now and embrace it as God’s precious gift to you!
What season are you in? What blessings are you finding in it?
Excellent advice at this, or any, glorious time of year.
