I feel like I’m always slow getting on trends – even with foods like the famous Charcuterie Boards that are everywhere right now. Are you familiar with them? Here’s one description ~
Charcuterie (pronounced “shahr-ku-tuh-ree”) is the art of preparing and assembling cured meats and other meat products. But, many people use the term charcuterie to refer to an assortment of meats that are paired with different accompaniments, such as toast, fruit, cheese, and sauces.
Last week I had the fun of hosting a Sour Dough Bread Making Class. Since you cannot teach a food class without doing some tasting, I thought it would be fun to build a Sandwich Charcuterie Board filled with small loaves of Sour Dough bread and sandwich makings.
The additions to my boards were ~
- Salami
- Ham slices
- Turkey slices
- Monterey Jack Cheese
- Cheddar Cheese
- Dry Roasted Peanuts
- Grapes
- Fresh pineapple
- Tomato slices
- Lettuce
- Mayo
- Dijon mustard
- Strawberry freezer jam
- Honey
I used the biggest wooden cutting board that I own for the sandwich ingredients and I placed the bread slices on a smaller wooden board. Since it is near Valentine’s Day, I used reds and hearts as accents on my board. I also tried to make high and low levels for interest. Here’s a peek at my board:
I think this idea is fantastic and I can see that there are limitless options! You could do all dessert items, or just snacking foods, taco ingredients, a mix of sweet and salty or even breakfast. Let your imagination run to different types of foods that would be at home together on one board!
I can see a Charcuterie board would be perfect for after church fellowship on a Sunday night, for family game night, football game watching, company breakfast, a dessert fellowship or a hundred other tasty reasons!
After everyone gathered at my home for our bread class, I reminded them that this wasn’t really only about bread – we were gathered together for fellowship and encouragement. To help with that, we did a little activity to get to know one another a little better. We played a game – This or This? The ladies raised their hands as to their preference for…
- Sweet or Salty
- Ocean or mountains
- Summer or winter
- Classical or Country
- Sun or rain
- Chips or Fries
- Read or Listen to podcast
- Coffee or tea
- Instagram or Facebook
- Pals or McDonalds
- Android or Iphone
- Running or walking
- Baking or Crafting
- Biking or swimming
- Tennis shoes or ballerina flats
- Dentist or Doctor
- Morning person or night owl
- Dine in or take out?
- Homemade Bread or Store bought
It was a fun way to learn about each other a little better. Later we also answered the questions ~
- What good thing happened this week?
- What bad thing happened this week?
- What God thing happened this week?
Women need each other for fellowship, encouragement, teaching, admonishing, and prayer. Who could you get with this week that will help you as you strive to walk with the Lord and love Him more? Who could you invite into your home for a lesson, a cup of coffee or just time to chat?
Have you jumped on the Charcuterie Board making? If so, tell me what kind have you made!
Refresh yourself and others by getting together!
P.S. Sweet or salty?
As a recipient of the charcuterie board, bread, challenge from His Word and fellowship that night, I can assure you that evening was exactly what was needed in my life after a hectic week. Thank you so much!

Love your Valentine themed board! Saturday nights is our game and snack night, so that’s usually when I make a Char. Board . I just call it the meat and cheese platter because I can’t always remember how to pronounce (or spell) Charcuterie! 😂 😂
I also like your idea for the “this it this” game. I’m having the ladies from my small group for supper tomorrow night and I think I’ll do this with them. We know each other pretty well, but sometimes I’m surprised at the little details I’ve missed about people in my lives. It should be fun for all!
Thanks for the ideas, and although I do enjoy plenty of salty, if I had to choose one, it would be SWEET!! 🧁

Thanks, Alinda! Trust me, I had to look up both the spelling and pronunciation of charcuterie board!😂 I trust the game gave some good laughs and a-ha moments with your ladies group this week.
Hoping you get something sweet dished up to you this week!

I wish I lived closer so I could come to some of your fellowship gatherings. You are the perfect hostess.
Another fun thing to do with a group is “Walking Tacos”. You set out all of the taco ingredients and then you just give the guests a little bag of Fritos. They can crunch the chips up in the bag, put the desired toppings in the bag and eat it right out of the bag. This is a hit at our Church with the kids and the adults.
