When I was visiting my mom recently, we made a trip to Kroger to purchase fresh catfish – her favorite fish to cook. I don’t order fried food out, but when I visit her, I indulge in her delicious catfish meal because it’s SO good!!
While she was cooking it, I asked if I could take pictures of the process for my blog. She sweetly obliged.
It’s very simple, and also super quick. At one point she remarked how easy it is to have dinner ready in thirty minutes. That’s a great reason to cook at home!
Here are her simple steps for a delicious Catfish dinner –
- Rinse the catfish fillets under cold water.
- Cover each fillet with cornmeal. Season with salt and pepper. She also used a Greek seasoning. It isn’t essential.
- Place the corn meal-coated fish in a pan of hot oil – about 1/8 inch deep. Fry on each side until the fish is brown and flakes easily. This takes only about ten minutes.

Her French fries are also delicious! To make those:
- Peel and cut potatoes into half inch slices.
- Heat oil several inches deep in a sauce pan.
- Place potatoes in hot oil and cook until tender.
- Remove from pan with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess grease. Season with salt.

Eating at home is a wise choice for so many reasons. This cost of this meal was about $5! So not only is it time-effective, it’s also economical.
As I did last week, I’ll soon be posting a video on my Instagram of my mom making this catfish meal. You’ll see his easily and quickly it came together. I hope it makes you hungry for a fish dinner!

Hats off to Mom from one Mom and cook to another who thinks the same – When made at home, we know what is in it, tastes better, costs less and etc. Etc.! ~ Rosie
