Our 45th anniversary was last Saturday. What a blessing to have this milestone to celebrate! We both consider our marriage a true grace gift from the Lord. Oh, how He kept each of us from foolish decisions that obviously would have changed the whole trajectory of our lives! I know that Dale is the one the Lord had for me. He completes me so well, making up for all my weakness, leading me spiritually and also helping to equip me to serve God. I am a blessed woman!
As we considered how we would celebrate, we knew we wanted a date night with just the two of us (which we thoroughly enjoyed on the 21st). I also suggested to my husband that we have a family dinner celebration on our back patio on the day of our anniversary. He was in agreement, so we planned together for a wonderful night.
A young woman in our church is a culinary arts major. Dale asked her to make two charcuterie boards for appetizers. He also had her make a celebration cake!

We had the dinner catered by Olive Garden and they did a fantastic job! Everything was provided for the meal, including serving utensils, tea and even Andes mints!

were so good!

The Lord provided a beautiful evening, so I got to set up tables in the shade provided by the pergola. I used my China, crystal and good silverware to make the setting a little elevated. One of my grandsons commented that “everything was fancy!” ☺️

Dessert was yellow cake with raspberry compote and white chocolate buttercream. It was so good!
Olive Garden also provided a chocolate cake that everyone loved.

The night ended while the sun was setting on our lovely evening. My heart was full of the kindness of the Lord for this time with my family, for 45 years with my best friend, and also a lovely backyard where we could celebrate. God is so good.

There is no perfect marriage or family, of course, but we thank the Lord for his grace that allowed this anniversary to happen. We long for Christ to be seen in our relationship that is full of forgiveness, grace, patience and every other fruit of the Spirit. We cannot have any healthy relationship without the Lord, and with Him He is the One Who gets the Glory!
Today we move on in His grace toward 46 years, should the Lord allow. How? By making investments every single day. By walking in the Spirit, and saying “no” to our flesh. We make the choice to love, even when things are difficult. We love with the love of Christ on the lovely celebration days and also on the ugly, hard days…all of His grace!
Every good gift, and every perfect gift comes from above! James 1:17
