It’s Better With a Friend

Solomon said ~

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. Ecclesiastes 4:9

This week I invited a friend over who simply wanted to know how to make Sourdough Bread. I had shared my recipe with her, but thought it would help for her to see the simple process herself. She was so surprised how easy my sourdough is. It’s not like the fussy kind you have to discard and baby each day. She said, “I can do this!” Indeed! It’s not that difficult!

I wanted her to see all the steps, so I had a bowl full of dough that had risen and was ready to put into the pans for the second rise. I had asked her to bring two pans so she could take these loaves home, allow them to rise, and then bake them in her oven. I wanted her house to smell delicious with the wonderful aroma of fresh loaves!

I also showed her how to feed the bread starter, then we mixed up a fresh batch of dough and set it aside to rise. I baked that later in the day.

Since I had invited her to come at 9:00 in the morning, I texted her and told her I had a breakfast casserole in the oven, if she hadn’t eaten yet. When she arrived, I had her pour herself a cup of coffee and join me at the bar counter. We ate a Turkey Sausage and Hash Brown casserole (recipe coming), scrambled eggs, and Cinnamon Raisin Sour Dough toast. We chatted. We laughed. We ate. We stirred. Oh, what a sweet time we had together!

When she pulled out of my driveway with her pans of bread already peeking up to the tops of her pans, I thought about how much sweeter it is to do things with others! I could have sent her all the instructions, but it was so much more fun to do it together in person! We need one another, and God knew that when He put people in pairs – Adam and Eve, Paul and Silas, James and John, Ruth and Naomi, David and Jonathan. Now you put your name here – ________________ and ____________. Who could you pull in to spend a little time with? It will do more for your heart than you even realize! Pour some iced tea, a cup of coffee or apple cider and invite someone to join you. It will make your day (and her day) better!
