The Piece of Advice That Has Simplified My Life

Yesterday on my social media, I answered the question:

“What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?”

My answer was this simple statement:`

Elisabeth Elliot

I added, “No matter if you’re in a time of sorrow, or it’s a time of busyness, or you’re feeling overwhelmed in parenting or marriage – what is the next thing? It’s that easy.”

How has that piece of advice helped me? I probably say it to myself at least once every single day. I often get “stuck” and don’t know what to think or say or do. But when I ask the Lord for the next right thing, He always leads me to my next step.

Just yesterday I was trying to make a decision. I felt flustered and anxious, but when I asked the Lord for the next right thing, He didn’t give me the answer for the decision, He said, “Go fold the laundry.” It had just finished drying, and was waiting for me

Clean the Living Room with Me!

This is the second episode in our new “Clean with Me” podcast series. You can listen here and use the podcast to clean while you listen!

My husband is a huge Dunkin Donut coffee fan! He has visited many of these establishments across the country. Whenever he walks out of the store with his DD coffee cup in hand, he gets in the car and begins to give me a review of their service and of the coffee itself. Recently when he was raving about the cup he just received, I told him,

Delicious Side Dish – French Peas

Repetition isn’t my favorite in basically any area.
Songs on repeat.
Same outfit.
Same restaurant.
One kind of weather all year.
Worship music that pounds out one phrase over and over.
The same vegetables for every supper.

Can you relate to that last one? Peas, green beans and corn are all good, but if you just warm them up and serve them as is, they can be pretty repetitious and boring!

Enter the recipe for French Peas. Doesn’t that sound fancy? They taste fancy, but they’re so simple to make! I found this recipe on Taste of Home’s site. You might crinkle your nose when you read the ingredients and say, “Water chestnuts with peas?!” But trust me, it adds a nice crunchy texture. All these flavors meld perfectly together, taking the ordinary pea and turning it into a spectacular side dish!

Remember This On a Hard Day

You can listen to this post here on the Refresh Her podcast.

On a recent early spring day, my husband and I were strolling on one of the beautiful walking paths near us. There is a little river that runs alongside the path. There are a couple of small waterfalls. There are green pastures and mountains. I was reveling in the beauty of it all when I looked at a woman walking towards me. She was not looking at the scenery. She wasn’t looking at the path or those that were walking towards her. She had her phone lifted up and she was texting and scrolling, totally oblivious to the beauty. Now perhaps she had a good reason to do this, but all I could think was, She’s missing all THIS!”

But how often I do the same thing when I’m overwhelmed with things going on in my life! All I can do is be obsessed with what is happening and how it’s affecting me. I miss what God is wanting to show me or remind me.
