Ten Things This Mom Would Do Again

You can listen to this post on Refresh Her podcast.

My mommy days are behind me now, and as I’m watching others in this special, yet demanding role, I have done some reminiscing over the years when my girls were young.  I have plenty of regrets, as all moms do, but I’m not going to dwell on those, because I can’t change them, and because doing so would not fall under the Philippians 4:8 things I should think about!  It’s in the past. But there are things that were so good about those days.  As I think back, I remember things that we did that I would definitely do again, if I had the chance.

The Best Broccoli Soup for Soup Season

With mid-October upon us this week, hearty, comforting soups are on my mind for supper meals. My husband and I really love Soup season. I have a pretty big variety of soup recipes that I have made over and over through the years. Maybe part of the reason we enjoy them is because of the memories of cool nights our round oak table accented with dripping candles, my harvest-colored bowls, fall cloth napkins, and my playlist I named, “Autumn” playing on Alexa. It’s cozy, homey and inviting. Fall perfection.

A couple weeks ago I had some purchased some broccoli to make, “The Best Broccoli Soup.” I’ve shared this in the past, but like so many of my recipes, I had shared it with another recipe, and it didn’t get a good spotlight. I wanted to share it before your soup season gets rolling. This recipe feeds a family and is so cost-effective. The night I made this, my daughter and her family dropped in and I invited them so stay for dinner. There was plenty for the six of us.

A Fun Weekend that Included the Bible Recap Live

These early fall days have been full of blessings from the Lord’s hands. It hasn’t really felt like fall with temps still rising to the 80’s, but we’ve enjoyed some fall activities anyway.

Whitney and I have been reading the Bible chronologically for the last few years using The Bible Recap with Tara Leigh Cobble. Months ago we purchased tickets to attend a Live Bible Recap in Greenville, SC. We were excited to hear Tara Leigh and be a part of this event. It far exceeded my expectations!

My sweet husband went along as my driver, but he also had “business” that kept him busy while Whitney and I were at the Live event. He and I stopped in Weaverville on our way at our favorite little bakery spot where we enjoyed lunch and shared a Molasses Cookie the size of your face!

Packing for the Journey of Marriage, Part 3

As we continue packing for the journey of marriage, it’s time to tuck away four more essentials into our suitcase – qualities that will not only make the trip smoother, but full of joy! You can listen to this post here on Refresh Her podcast.

7. The seventh item we need to pack away is a good disposition – Why do you need this? Because a spirit can drive our husband away. Here’s what Scripture says:

Fall Salad on Repeat

I absolutely love coming home from church and having guests join us for dinner. We had the blessing of hosting a young man overnight who works at The Wilds. Our daughter, Alli and her family joined us, too, and it was a sweet blessing to serve them.

I want my grandsons to have special memories of eating Sunday dinner at Gigi’s house, so it is my intention to have them as often as is possible for both of our family’s schedules. Their mommy is doing a fabulous job teaching them to be gentlemen with good manners, and it’s sweet to watch them as they are learning. Oh, they’re still tough little guys, but they know to wait for the hostess before they begin eating, to put their napkin in their lap, and to wait to be excused from the table. I admire the hard work it takes to instill those kind of good habits. I know it doesn’t just “happen!”

I was so surprised that both of my eight-year old grandsons had seconds on SALAD yesterday! But then because I know how absolutely delicious this salad is, I totally understand! It has ALL the things to make you come back for more. It’s a favorite Pioneer Woman recipe I found years ago.
