I Will Look Up

This week begins our summer ministry at The Wilds Christian camp and we’re getting our toes wet by attending staff training part of this week. Though these next couple of months will be busy, I’m praying the Lord will allow me to continue post podcasts on the Refresh Her podcast each week throughout summer. There might not be a blog post that will accompany it, but I hope you’ll listen on the platform you use for podcasts.

Today’s podcast is entitled, “I Will Look Up.” I witnessed a scenario some years ago that taught me how and why I must look up in times of hardship. My inclination is to get fixated on the trial, but the Lord has a much better place for our eyes! Listen and be encouraged!

Strawberry Pie on Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day! I am so grateful for the men and women who gave their lives defending our nation. Today I celebrate my freedom and salute these brave soldiers.

Part of my family will be gathering at our house for a small cookout. Hamburgers and hotdogs, the obligatory main course be accompanied by corn on the cob…

Staycation At Its Best

What fun it can be to pack up our bags and travel to far away places. It’s exciting to explore new cities and amazing landmarks. However, I have found that to really be able to rest, my favorite place is close to home.

There’s nothing like sitting in the quiet corners of my own house filled with comfy chairs, lamps put in just the right place for reading and ambiance with a cup of coffee on the side table. There’s also the simple joy of sitting out on the back porch on these lovely late spring days, admiring all the roses in bloom and the wisteria swaying in the breeze, knowing we have no where we have to be…only together.

Finding the Golden Years Truly Golden

You can listen to this post here on Refresh Her podcast.

I like to think I’m organized, but it seems like more and more, I’m looking for something.  Recently it was a recipe.  “I KNOW it’s in this box.  I’ve always filed it under ‘Desserts,’ but I don’t see it.  I remember that it’s on a recipe card with my mom’s name at the top.  The card looks like watermelon colors.”  I could see it mentally. My eyes were peeled for that color in that box of hundreds of recipe cards of every color. If I could find that recipe I could make some delicious cookies! I did eventually lay my hands on it and found that I was skimming right over top of it because I was looking for the wrong thing.  The card looked completely different than what I pictured.

Growing up, we all heard about “The Golden Years.”  The picture that was painted in my mind was of lawn chairs,, lemonade and leisure! Those senior citizens in my mind’s eye were doing NOTHING except resting or traveling in their RV.  Seemed pretty nice in my youthful mind.

But as I’ve aged and listened to senior citizens, I’ve heard quite the opposite of that imagined scenario.  I hear Senior Citizens crying, “And these are the Golden years?!  There’s nothing Golden about these years!”  But I’ve come to understand from God’s Word that it isn’t that the Golden years are so horrible, it’s like my search for that cookie recipe, perhaps  the eyes of seniors are missing it because we’re looking for the wrong thing.

Embracing a Staycation for Spiritual Renewal and Physical Rest

What a lovely season of ministering this has been. In the last ten weeks we have been to I believe seven different churches/camps/events. We’ve pretty much been home at the front end of each week, and then gone for a long weekend.

How kind the Lord is to grant these opportunities to serve Him, to allow for safe travels, to have the blessing of meeting so many precious people who have become sweet friends and have so much fun while serving! On top of all that, Dale and I get to do it together!

I will admit, however, that it feels nice to know that our spring ministry trips are completed and we have a time of refreshment before summer. Time for a little REST.
