Christmas Cake & Coffee Party Recap

The month of December was busy, but it was full of fun, baking, laughter, good food and fellowship all around the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Before the new year gets too far along, I have to recap one of the sweet times the Lord allowed.

I had a Christmas Cake and Coffee Party on the thirteenth that was so much fun to host! I wanted the evening to feel casual, so I purchased Christmas Socks from Amazon and had them in a basket in the foyer. I had a little chalkboard sign at the door that told the ladies this was a gift for their feet. They slipped on the socks and left their shoes behind.

Spiritual Eye Surgery

You can listen to this post here on Refresh Her podcast.

Last year at a yearly examination at my optometrist’s office, the doctor slid his chair back and said, “You can plan on having eye surgery sometime this year. Your cataracts are ready to come off.”

I was so surprised! I was seeing well! Oh, magazine print was a little difficult, and driving at night wasn’t the best, but magazines are using lighter print than they used to, and why do cars have such bright lights on them now? There wasn’t anything really wrong with my eyes, but okay, I went along with the doctor and my first surgery was scheduled.

It happened first thing in the morning. That evening when the dilation had lessened I could not believe what I was seeing. Colors were so bright! Even white was different! The threads on fabrics were so pronounced I couldn’t believe my eyes. When I looked in the mirror, I had aged 10 years in a matter of hours!

The Favorite Thing I Ate at Christmas (and plan to repeat for New Year’s!)

The tastiest thing I made and ate at Christmas wasn’t part of the Christmas dinner, it was Christmas Eve when we have a simpler meal of soups, little sandwiches, cheese ball and cookies.

I made two soups this year – Sausage Corn Chowder and Chicken Gnocchi. I also made our traditional Party Ryes. What tasted especially good to me was the gnocchi and Party Ryes. The flavors, the textures, the deliciousness in those two menu items was unforgettable!

Read the Bible With Me in 2025

How sweet your word is to my taste— sweeter than honey in my mouth.
Psalm 119:103

Reading through the Bible in a year has been the greatest means of my personal spiritual growth. The sweetest blessing has been as I read, I continue to Learn the character of my God. Each day I look for what the passage tells me about Him. Then I write that in my journal. What nuggets those truths are in my life! They comfort, encourage, guide, and give hope!

There has been another tool as I read that has greatly helped, and that is reading through the Bible chronologically. It has also given a greater understanding and has helped to put the pieces together in the timeline of biblical history and of the future events yet to come!

I’m nearing the end of the 2024 reading plan and I’m excited about starting all over again January 1, 2025. Its story is always fresh and alive and I’m excited about the new things that I will learn. I’d love for you to join me and Whitney as we read through the Bible this year!
