The house feels a little quiet now that Christmas is behind us. The living room couch sits alone with no piles of people lounging on its fluffy pillows. The family room is void of family chatter, laughter and noise. Even after numerous sweepings, the kitchen may still have cookie sprinkles hiding under the cabinets or stove, but it’s void of the hustle and energy of the previous week. Yes, the “big holiday” is over, but you know what? Spite the emptiness of the house, my heart is very, very full. It’s full of memories, joy, and happy sighs.

Health Benefits from Small, Consistent Changes
Last week I had my yearly physical where bloodwork was drawn and cholesterol, sugars, Triglycerides and all the other important things were checked. I always hold my breath when the results come into my email. I have a family history of high cholesterol, so it makes it extra difficult to get those numbers down. My doctor is sympathetic, but still lovingly firm about the fact that I must eat right and exercise.
I was overjoyed that though my numbers are still higher than “normal,” they dropped close to 40 points! Someone asked me how I did it. My answer was pensive. I stopped and thought about my intentional efforts.

I am sincere. It has removed worry,
revealed my selfish thinking,
reminded me that the most important things are not things,
given me peace in trouble,
and brought genuine joy in the midst of hardship.
