Awkward Waiting In Prayer

I will never forget the anxious moments of waiting. I was a soon-to-be post college student seeking God’s will for my future. My name had been given to a pastor (Cunningham) who was looking for a secretary for the Christian school at his church, and I was waiting for my appointment with him where I would be interviewed for the position.

I arrived promptly at our set time, climbed the stairs to the Student center, and from a distance, peeked into doorway of the interview office . I saw a man talking with a student. Immediately, I assumed that he was the man I was waiting for. I seated myself on a sofa outside the office, in a place where I would be easily seen when he exited the interview office. Then I waited…and I waited.

Where Should We Look In a Trial?

You can listen to this post on the Refresh Her podcast.

One day my husband and I took our lunch from home and headed to the lake to sit on the boat dock and enjoy the pretty weather.  The water in the lake was still low, due the early time in the season.  So our seat on the dock was not sitting in the water, as you see in the picture below.  Instead, we were looking immediately out onto rocks; big, little and in-between, as well as the dirt beneath them.  There was even a bit of trash that had accumulated at the shoreline. it wasn’t a beach shore – it was the exposed lake bottom.   It wasn’t exactly picturesque.

However, if I looked upward to the other side of the lake, there were beautiful homes to enjoy.  Trees were blooming.  The water was shining as the sun reflected off of it.  I decided to look upward instead of down! I could then point across the lake and say to my husband, “Look over there!  Isn’t that beautiful?”  If I was thinking, I could have also reminded him that in a month or so this lake would be full again and it would be so pretty right where we were sitting, too!

While You Wait

We expect fast service. Fast delivery. Fast answers to our text messages, and, let’s be honest, we expect fast answers to our prayers. But we quickly learn that God’s time table is different than ours, and we often find ourselves waiting. Today’s podcast answers the question – What should we do while we wait for God to answer our petition? You might be surprised that we aren’t supposed to be just sitting still and doing nothing! Find out what you can and should be doing while you wait as you listen to today’s episode that concludes the series on Elizabeth.

When You’re Waiting On God

What are little boys made of?
What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails
And puppy-dogs’ tails,
That’s what little boys are made of.

For one of our little grandsons, that poem is so accurate. He loves any kind of animal, and will warm up to whatever dog or cat is around, no matter its hesitant nature towards children. He has a way with them, and a heart that melts to love and care for this furry friend. His brother is far more resistant and quite leery about animals, perhaps knowing how quickly one can turn on an unsuspecting child.

Last year, their parents did the loving thing and purchased a puppy for their animal-loving son and his twin brother. Beasley was welcomed into their home as a wiggling, barking, ever-moving Labradoodle. His teeth were never satisfied with the likes of store-bought teethers. He would nip and snip at the boys when they were running through the yard. Our animal lover thought this was hilarious; his brother was traumatized by it. All kinds of dog-training methods were used, but over time the puppy continued to howl and bite, and the frightened grandson, became more and more upset.
