What Your Words Can Do

A friend of mine cut this cartoon out for me years ago.  I had stashed it in my kitchen drawer and kept it and recently came across it; it just makes me laugh.  You see, she knew that fixing things isn’t a forte’ of my husband’s, and she thought this was an appropriate chuckle.  He can laugh at himself, and he thinks it’s funny too.

While an occasional laugh is appropriate, I don’t tease my husband about this kind of stuff.   Every month as I read through Proverbs I am struck with the power of a woman’s words to a man. What comes out of our mouths has the force to encourage, motivate, bolster and cheer on our man.  Of course, on the flip side, our speech can also degrade, discourage, dishearten and deflate him.

Proverbs 12:25 says, Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad. It’s our responsibility and privilege to encourage our husband with our words.  What can you say today that will lift your husband’s heart?  Need an idea?  Tell him what a great provider he is, what you admire about him, or a character trait that you see evidenced in his life, then watch his stooped over heart stand up tall and straight because of your words!

Want to brag a little about your husband?  Tell us something you admire about him in the comments section!

With love,

  1. My hubby works overtime every week, a minimum of 48 hours, still making sure he's off to take us to church on Sunday and Wednesday, works around the house when he's home doing all our little odd jobs because he can fix anything AND he goes to school. He is the most hard-working man I know. He is awesome and I am one blessed woman!! =)

He also has taken on the responsibility of caring for our German Shepherd.
Yes, it's a big deal! And I really appreciate him for it~

  3. My husband has to be pretty tough and serious at work, but he is always loving towards me. He tells me “I love you” several times every day. His sweetness and tenderness always melts my heart!

  4. I don't know where to start and once I get going it's hard for me to stop. John's #1 asset to me is that he has always loved me conditionally. I never knew that kind of love until I found the Lord and John. He is the kindness, most gentle, hard working and loving man I have ever known. There is not a day that goes by that he doesn't tell me several times a day he loves me and we never end a phone call without those 3 little words being spoken before we hang up. When he walks into a room my life is complete. I'm so thankful God sent him into my life 25 years ago.

  6. No, Becky, you didn't goof it up! As a matter of fact, I read it “unconditionally” because I knew that's what you meant! So happy for your recent “big” anniversary and for the chance to see your love for one another in action! Thanks for sharing!
